I need a 4" fixed blade EDC

Either would serve you well.
You cannot go wrong with either, and these two would be my top two choices.
The Dozier is one of the most comfortable knives on the maket today.
The one shown above comes with a right hand cross draw sheath.
I have the pro skinner by him, THE BEST!
Not only is the man a legend in the world of knives, he is a legend among knifemakers.
Immpecible craftsmanship.
The Nimravus will not hold its value like a Dozier, but then again, I don't think you will sell it once you get it.
I have put my Nimravus through hell!
It is still one of my most remarkable knives.
You may consider this also, the Dozier would be an excellent hand me down heirloom (if you have kids).

If you're just going to carry it in a sheath anyway, I'd go for this. Or, maybe even this if you can go for a little shorter than a full 4 inches. Both are going to give you as good a steel as you can hope for.

More of Da man, top one 3 1/2" blade:

The bottom one is 4 1/4" blade, all are D2 @ RC 61

I think Spyderco is selling the black blade Perrin's from their website for $50.00.
What about the Benchmade Snody fix blade?? I forgot the name, the new one that just came out. Hmmm....220 SNODY RESISTOR!
Found it! :)
You can't go wrong with a Dozier.

Spyderco Moran drop point. VG10. Excellent handle, steel, sheath.Well under $100 shipped.

I know where you can get this knife for under $70 shipped with a kydex or leather sheath, brand new, authorized dealers.
I like the Moran also, and the VG-10 is and excellent steel type.
It is however kind of narrow towards the front of the handle.
I still like it and it should serve you well also.
If interested, PM me and I will email you their websight.
I have delt with them many times in the past, and they are top notch.

Bark River all the way...
Unless you lose your senses and decide to buy a custom... Then go with Dozier.

Nimravus/ the Nim Cub all the way. The 140 is my EDC now. So slim and tough. Ask Eric at On/Scene Tactical or Robert at Survival Sheath Systems to fix u an Concealeax sheath. They are both cool! The factory sheath is too bulky for EDC I would only use it in camping or so.

If a slightly shorter blade is not an issue look at the benchmade resistor (model 220). it has a 3.4" blade. Nicely built compact fixed blade. 154 CM steel is not the latest wonder metal but is sufficient for most tasks. It was not too long ago that it was the blade steel of choice for a bunch of the custom makers out there as well as the high end production knives.

I have the new sheath on my 140 also, and hate it.
On the other hand, the older PURE kydex (not the kevlar one) is an excellent EDC system.
I have tried to find the old sheath type, to no avail.

For a $100 your almost into a nice custom territory. Do a search on some of Gene Ingrams knives. Excellent value for the money. Might stretch your budget up into the $130 range but worth every penny.

There have also been some Wayne Hendrix knives in the exchange for less than a C note. Again, great workmanship you just won't find in a production model at that price.

Spyderco Moran F/W in upswept or drop point. You won't get a better steel for under $100 - is light and very comfortable in the hand. I am doing a field test with this knife at the moment for my Newsletter and I can't fault it for the price. It's only a personal preference but if you can pick up one with the mirror finish, moran edge and leather sheath (I bought mine on ebay for $61US) you will be better off - but don't get me wrong the current stock model is good.

I've spent from $20 to $200 in my quest for just such a knife. After all is said and done, the one I like most is the Kershaw Vertigo. It is a tactical version of the previously mentioned Echo.
I probably bought 15 to 20 knives in this size range and was never satisfied till I got this one.
Price range is $35 to $45 bucks around the net.

Although selfdefense may not be a primary concern to you, this is the piece in that size range that feels best to me for that role. It does Ok for utility uses too.
I wouldn't mind seeing a non-serrated version though. I also like the AFCK,the Vertigo has a similar blade shape other than a slight amount of recurve.

The Echo shares the same type handle with a deeper recurve shape for the blade. As previously stated, the Echo has a leather sheath versus the kydex on the Vertigo. I will eventually have another sheath made, but this one is alot better than some I've seen in this price range.

Hope this helps!

Yeap. I know what you are thinking. Sometimes I just can't understand why some makers can produce some brilliant knives but paired them with all those silly sheaths. I know the oldest version of the kydex sheath that u were talking about. That's simply the best. If only Benchmade could simply stick with it.

And one more thing about the Nimravus, jwade. If u happen to get it, remember to get the M2 version.

It's a little bit under 4", but the Fallkniven F1 is in your price range and an outstanding little fixed blade, especially with some kydex from On Scene Tactical.

Wicked sharp convex grind, VG10 steel, and a versatile blade design.

The bottom looks like a Pro Guides Knife. It has a 4 3/4" blade. One of the best knives I own. It fits like an extension of my hand. I can only hope the Wilderness feels half as good, when I get it....

I have the one in the top photo.
The Proffesional Skinner.
Immpecable craftsmanship.
Just can't go wrong with Bob's work.
He will increase your expectations for futrure puchases though.
Kinda hard to find a nice knife once you have a Dozier! :D

Actually, you can get better steel for less than $100 now, at least in the US. Check the links in my previous post. I've used both (S30V and VG10), and the S30V holds up longer in my experience. The VG10 is very close, though. VERY close.
