Peter, one of the options is Coote grinder. It is a bit over $400 and you will also need a motor for it, which you can get from ebay for $40-$70. But you can customize your setup, and upgrade the motor to VFD later.
There is also Grizzly grinder. The quality will not be as good as Coote and it will run at constant speed only but many makers here use it(or used it at some point). You will probably be able to find it used.
Grizzly is not sold into Canada(as far as I know). I want to build myself a grinder, I think I am going to start with a 1x42 first, something like a kmg, but different(I don't like how some things are on the kmg) once I get that up and running and figgure out how I should have built it I will build a bigger one.
N Dubya G? One can be built for $400 easy when you get the motor used, Im sure Tracey will mail the plans to canada. Just look up No Weld Grinder plans.
