I have a Craftsman 2x42. I, like most, was scared to death when I saw the prices on production 2x72 grinders. I did not want to sink that much money into a new hobby. I have used this grinder for about a year. It is only 1/3 hp and needs more guts.
I also wanted to slow it down.
I recently found these videos on youtube for some pretty easy mods on the grinder. I don't know if the links work - you can just search youtube under "500dollarknifeshop"

Has anyone tried removing the disk sander and installing a pulley to drive the grinder externally? I have a 3/4 hp bench grinder and was thinking of driving the Craftsman with 2:1 pulley ratio to up the power and cut the speed in half.
