I Need A Belt

Scott,

Why web? You live near one of the greatest sources of leather belts around (Sparks). Is there a specific reason you want a synthetic? I have worn a Sparks gun belt in dark brown shark nearly every day for three years and it shows almost no wear. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Rick

Other than one a friend made me in 87, and is still serviceable, I've had the best luck with Carhartt.

Of course they're leather

i have about three belts from sparks and almost all my holsters are from them. i just wanted to try a high quality web belt for a change.

5.11 Tactical, they make a "Trainer" 1.5" or "Operator" 1.75" I have both. The operator has an insert to support a holster, both are awesome belts for around $29.99.

How about a Kydex lined leather belt. Tactical, but doesn't look like it. Looper's Leather in OKC markets them for under cover officers, but I wear mine every day whether I have a gun on or not.

I have worn the Wilderness Tactical Belts for more than 15yrs now... Currently the Frequent flyer in CSM it's kydex lined for stiffness and makes a perfect gunbelt.

I carry a full-size 1911, extra mag, steel J-frame, and a BATAC, plus all the usual keys, etc. on a Wilderness tactical with the plastic insert. Great belt.

I wore out a fine leather belt from one of the top makers in about 7-8 months.

Wilderness 5 stitch for me. Carries a holster (or knives) very well. I can't speak to the one with inserts, though I have been curious. Mine is stiff enough for what I need it for though :)

I have been eyeing the SOE Cobra as well--heard good things about them...

Wilderness Belt.

I have a 5-stitch model, steel buckle. I can put a camera case on it (film SLR, metal and glass, with a few more gizmos) with no problem, so it should work well unless you try and holster a rifle.

(edit to add)
They also sell a shirt in the pattery "Drunken Petroglyph", so you can accessorize:

I had one of these Wilderness belts, too. Superior quality! I special ordered mine because I wanted one a couple of inches longer than the longest standard size, but I gave it away a few days ago to a big friend. When I had ordered it I weighed about 80 lbs. more than I do now. It was wide, but still worked OK in my jeans belt loops. They make a slightly narrower one now I think. I paid about $50 for mine I think, but it was an excellent gun belt. Sturdy and stiff!

I have been wearing a riggers belt from HSGI for just about 2 years now. It is awesome!! I have worn it every day to work, in the field and in garrison. I'm hard on my gear. It definitely won't fail you. I imagine you could hang anything you want off it.

You can check em out at http://www.hsgi.us. Gene won't steer ya wrong. He even made a few small modifications to mine at no charge.

I have also heard nothing but good things about John Willis at Original SOE gear. http://originalsoegear.com/riggerbelt.html I am contemplating one of his as well. Your only problem may be a bit of a wait if he doesn't have one already made.

Whan it comes to gear like this I prefer high end stuff from smaller companies who are making things in lower quantities with more care and attention to detail. Plus, usually I can get the head guy on the phone or email to discuss my order if need be. Also most of your bigger companies are making stuff overseas.

Good luck,

Nick

I couldn't find a good belt so I make my own. Whenever I order a shoulder of 10 oz leather for sheathmaking, I cut a couple of belts from it 2 inches wide. I couldn't find a good buckle for a belt this wide so I simply made my own from a chunk of brass barstock. The belt was easy to make, but the buckle took alot of hand work to file and sand into shape, as much of it couldn't be done on the belt sander.

Great solid brown leather belt, with suspenders keep the pants up and the knives in place.

The Wilderness Instructor's Belt is the best belt I've ever owned. I just got a new one in Titanium, huge weight savings and worth the extra $ IMO. 5 Stitch, 1.5" wide...
