I need a better sheath for my new RC-5

Gee, sorry if I offended you RC-5 sheath lovers... I sure didn't mean to. I am just accustomed to simple leather sheaths. The RC-5's is growing on me. With the sheath source change, perhaps I'll just keep it for now - and await future choices. Like I said, it is growing on me... gads, am I, as I approach 61, going 'mall ninja'?? Hmmm - fat white-haired old guy with a MOLLE sheath...

Seriously, it is a nice sheath - and no doubt part of the price paid. Interestingly, Two Wolves only has serrated left now - and they went up - got mine just in time! Thanks for the helpful info and suggestions - and please talke my initial metered disdain for the MOLLE sheath as evidence of a 'senior moment' - or a lack of caffein.

Stainz,

I actually agree with you for the most part. While the RC-5 standard sheath is a nice setup for the hardcore mil users, if I was going to carry a 5 then it would have a much simpler sheath.

Never been afraid to speak your mind on this forum. That's what this place is all about and we appreciate any and ALL feedback.

Much thanks,

Jeff

Stainz,
I hope you didnt take what I said as wrong either. No harm was intended. No need to apologize just like Jeff said.

My post was purely honest. It made me laugh.. My brother is the "Traditional Hunter" ... leather goods, horned handle knives, etc.

I am the Tactical one. So when he sometimes ventures into MY world.. he is frustrated and makes the same argument. And.. vice versa.. Why would I want to carry a rifle that can only hold 1 round? etc....

Yeah.. dont go all "Mall Ninja" on us please. :) Hope you find a sheath that works for ya!!

I'm with ya on preferring leather for the most part, Stainz. I'm a great deal like RandomUser's brother in regards to the type of gear I like; Duluth packs, wood/horn/bone handled knives, wood stocks/grips on firearms, stick-and-string over compound bow, etc. I had even planned to strip my Izula, wrap the grip with rawhide strips, and make/buy a leather sheath for it. Alas, having played around some with it, I'm gonna leave it as-is for now. It's just too cool to "improve." Perhaps this is my first step on the path to the Dark Side:eek:.

I too prefer leather sheathes to the injection molded or kylex sheahs out there, I just happen to like leather. And for me, a beautiful blade deserves a beautiful sheath. That being said, I happen to use the stock sheaths from all my RCs, with the exception of the TAK-1 Jeff sent me, which has a custom sheath from JRE. Most of the Scott Gossman blades I own came with JRE leather sheaths. I am in the process of getting either a RC5 or RC6 and I will get it from Derek at knivesshipfree, and I will order one of the leather sheaths to go with it from him at the same time.

Sadly, Dr. Derek only has Sharpshooter leather sheaths for the RC-3 & 4. The 5 and 6 will have to, for the moment, get their's elsewhere.

I have a thick hide - I just didn't know if others do - and I sure didn't want to offend anyone. Thanks for the reassurance.

I showed the RC-5 to my son today after my Pappy's Day lunch. I'm a Mex-type for eateries - today's was at a Japaneese cook it at the table place. Pretty neat. He gave me what he coined as a teenager "... or the ca$h equivalent..." - moola. As a pilot for a large bank (He was pictured Friday on the Wash Journal flying bank execs off on a 'trip'.), his future is in jeopardy. He'll hit 40 in January - and is a semi-knife-knut (He gave me a LMFII last summer.). I'm thinking maybe an RC-3 or RC-4...

Yeah, I am a 'traditionalist' in firearms. My long guns are gone now, save a couple of .22s and a .45 Colt levergun. My handguns are all S&W revolvers now. With proper wood grips, of course. Okay, I have some rubber for the 629s when the order of the day isn't my .44 Russians and Specials, but big booming Magnums. Easy to see why I like leather sheaths.

That included RC-5 sheath grows on you. It's hard to put down. Thanks for the warm feelings here... I'll be back!

I see where the current RC5 sheath is useful, but I prefer the kydex sheaths that come standard on the other models.Oh yeah,I love Rats!
