i need a big knife

im looking for someone to make me a big knife but what steel would be a exellent choice ,blade about 12 inchs,3/16 to 1/4 inch thick
 
i would say 5160 or A2. if you have a drawing email it to me as i have some time and lots of stock. i could get it done for you.
 
Depends on the intended use. a 12" bladed camp knife is very different from a 12" bladed chef's knife...

What did you have in mind. I have 2 current knifes that I am working on that may fit the bill however both are 5/32 not 3/16 or 1/4 thick. It is still a solid knife, and quite big. both are also 154CM
 
i need a slim and light as can be knife ,must cut trails all day sometimes,chop hardwood sometimes bone,long enough to stone an old boar.thats all not 2 much 2 ask 4 in a big knife .Aloha
 
The one that the maker is most familiar with! A2, 5160, 3V, L6, M2, 1080 to name a few, are all good.
