I got a rat 7 on trade here in the forums, it's my first rat knife, but it's now my go to camp knife....

Be different, wait for the Junglas to come out.

If you don't want to wait, I think it's no secret the RC6 is my favorite.

I will also put in my vote for the RC6.It fits my hands real well, and I prefer a longer blade.

Get the RC-4, I just bought one for backpacking and camping and it works wonders, perfect size. I have heard the RC-3 is better for slicing, but the RC-4 is fine. I also recommend getting the orange handles with either the 3 or 4, its awesome.

Favorite camp knife=RC-6 Very versatile tool:) From food prep to campfire chores, it does it all.

The RC-6 was designed specifically as an all-'rounder. It's my definite favorite out of the RAT line (at least until the ESEE Lite Machete comes out!) and it'll handle anything you throw at it. :)

Hi folks

I got to handle these knives for the first time at a gun show today. First time I handled any of the RC series. I think I've decided on the RC-4. It felt the best in my hand and felt like the right size for me. Now to decide on color.

After handling them, I know the Izula and the RC-4 won't be the only two!

Thanks for all the help

The RC-4 is the "Goldilocks" of Rat knives in my opinion-just right! I have subsequently added the Izula as it is even more maneuverable when skinning bears and the like. The 4 will always remain on me however when I am in the woods. I don't see any point to the 6 at all (unless you need to compensate) :) as I have a camp axe in base-camp, and a lightweight folder saw for the pack etc. The RC- is the one I'd grab only if I were to go into a combat situation and might likely need it as a weapon, pry-bar etc. but in "normal" hunting/camping situations the RC-4 is much more versatile. Ever see Davy Crockett's knife? The whole thing is probably 6 inches! Big knives are mostly for Hollywood and I say this as a BK9 owner. (I can't even find that knife now. I think it was stolen). :(

TI don't see any point to the 6 at all (unless you need to compensate) :)

Historically, "camp knife" refers to a fairly large knife (the Junglas is actually more the right size) used in camp for butchering and such large tasks.

Besides some of us don't need to compensate, we're used to handling larger tools. ;)

I keep an Izula attached to my RTAK II. It makes for a perfect camp combo. I would imagine the Junglas will be an even better choice once released.
I would go to the other extreme and get big, then shoot for collecting everything else in between. ;)

I would get the RC-4 for a general use outdoors knife. The RC-3 is too close to the izula for size and the RC-5 and 6 aren't well suited to whittling.

RC-4 is just the right size. One of the few occasions where the jack of all trades is the answer
