I need a dive knife (but not an actual dive knife)

I wouldn't want to keep AUS8 in salt water for prolonged amounts of time. It isn't known for its rust resistance.

Actually the newer models are 8cr13mov. It's not ideal metallurgy wise, but i have a Kershaw Tremor that is a champ. I do yard work all day with it in a sweaty pocket, go fishing in brackish water, and even left it bloody after skinning a squirrel for a day, and it only has a few small spots of rust. All I do to maintain it is rinse it in my sink at the end of the day (sometimes I forget though) and wipe it on my pants leg. I imagine that with a light coat of oil and a good rinse when i get home the steel will be just fine.

Yeah, the steel will be ok, especially on a fixed blade with no moving parts. Hit it with some steel wool every few months if u have to. Cheap knives are good in the water. I have lost a tackle box and with a couple hundred dollars in lures and a pair of Maui Jims in the surf...just in the last three days! Seriously. i have rods and reels and gaffs pliers and all manner of gear lying somewhere on the bottom of the Pacific! The ocean eats stuff. You will likely lose it long before it rusts! Get used to it! :-).

Hopefully the knife works well for you, though it wouldn't be my first choice. Try to get the AUS8 version if you can- it's not super rust resistant, but still definitely more so than 8Cr13MoV.
