Im looking for an in between knife. I have a big 1/4 inch knife for batoning and and small bk14 for detailed task. I need something in between that could filet a fish and do some batoning, something that can do it all. less than 100 bucks

I'd say a becker bk15, then. Ive batoned and split with it and it held a razor edge.

getting closer, but the look of the grip just turns me off

I agree it's handle certainly won't win any beauty contests but in it's defense it's Thermorun which is extremely comfortable, grippy and durable and stands for raw functionality. Besides you asked for a knife that could DO it all, not a beauty queen ;). Seriously though. If you don't know about Fällkniven knives you should read up on them, they're amazing blades for the money and the F1 in this pic is even fit for EDC given it's modest size (blade is about 4")

This vid offers a good deal of info:

I have had a pile of fixed blades in the past. If you are looking at the BK15/16/17 I would consider the ESEE/RAT 4/5. Thicker blade stock and micarta grips. The F1 is nice too!

The Esee 3 is a great cutter/slicer. It's light too. So if you have the pry bar role covered, it would be a good option.

Two things come to mind, the BK 15, 16, or 17, but get the Micarta grips. Secondly, if you can get past the handle, get the Falkniven S1 if you wanted a bigger blade than the F1. Or there are Falkniven with custom handles out there somewhere, a few done by Bark River.

If fish are part of the equation, I would suggest the Kabar Becker BK-17. The BK-15 would work nicely too. I would choose something pointy or simply carry one of your other knives (BK-14 with handles) and a Spyderco Endura or Delica, or even a SAK. Something less expensive...Kabar Dozier folding hunter.

The Fallkniven F1 is a great knife, but I believe it exceeds your budget. Mine ran me approaching $300 with the Fallkniven micarta handles.

A few weeks ago I found this knife in my shop.I put it in my back pocket and was surprised to find how easy it carried that way.Not a bad knife,it's still in my back pocket. The one I have is a combo edge but has proven to be pretty handy.Lol,I'm always finding forgotten items in the shop.
