I need a fixed blade for a burlesque dancer to pull out of her garter for under $50.

The title pretty much says it. Extra points if it is "pretty" or "flashy"

Trying to avoid United/mtech/budK at all costs.

Hit me,

Thanks,

Nim

Cold Steel Spike of some kind? Not 'pretty' but they're the right price and flavour.

Otherwise, a folding straight razor. :D

Cold Steel Braveheart is perfect, 4" blade that weighs less than 3oz. and it's very thin - about $45. The whole sgian dubh history thing - tucked away in clothing. Wish they still made the Culloden also.

It is more then a fifty but andy roy at fiddleback was inspired by just such an act when he designed one of his knives, I think it was the lady finger, it might be exactly why you are looking for

search gold dagger on ebay.

Good thought, but ebay ain't getting no more of my money.

Bonus points for pics ;)

I believe knife center has a few under their fantasy and historical dagger section of fixed blades.

they do, but we were thinking something in the middle of 3" and 12"

That was my first thought, but I don't know if she wants to go tactical.

That could work.

this thread again?

I don't know what you mean. I'm pretty sure this is the first time the word "burlesque" has been typed in this forum. This isn't a "I need a knife for my girlfriend" thread. That's a different question. This girl is not my girlfriend, and my girlfriend has knives.

Definitely one of these:

Blackjack Ace of Spades dagger - costs 30-40 bucks.

Oh yeah, I like it. I like it a lot. Though it's a dagger, but that just means I'll have to grind down an edge. Though technically it would qualify as a curio I think.

Thanks all. But keep the suggestions coming.

You want a big honkin' knife to make the audience go  Ooooooo! when she whips it out, right? The question is how long can it be before it gets awkward? Experiment with sticks until you find the right length. There are plenty of suitable looking daggers at the Knifecenter page linked above, of various lengths. You can blunt the edges, or just one edge if she's going to cut something. Details of the hilt are not going to be very visible even to the front row. It's mostly a matter of being big and shiny, I think.

Cougar's got it right. My wife is also a burlesque dancer, and those are exactly the concerns one must think about in this case. Big enough and shiny enough for visibility, not too much fine detail, and dull the edges unless she's actually cutting something during the act.
Good luck!

nice

I gotta agree with cougar & puukkoman. Big shiny bowie knife is what I'm thinking. Or maybe an old hickory butcher for that frontiersman look. Not sure how much you want to spend on it.
