I need a good folder, specified needs

Emerson A100...seriously, it is a folding Puukko/Bushcraft blade.

I have some pics somewhere of a wicked feather stick I made with mine 2 weeks ago(I'll try and find it) I can't say enough about this amazing folder. Plain and simple but just begs to be used. No guard to get in the way and has the Emerson chisel grind that makes carving a breeze. I was really blown away by the outdoor uses for this knife as I had been carrying it daily as just my work and do all folder. Now, it is my folder to go to when camping, etc.

Check one out:thumbup:

Any vic sak, A farmer or for even smaller the cadet are good choices, gotta love that alox. The OHT is nice as well.
Opinels, spyderco and Buck 110's are also solid choices, I recommend getting something small that still fits in the hand if it's for edc, you will be more likely to carry it everywhere.
The Vic cadet is my edc.

Cheaper - I can't recommend an endura or delica enough

Middle of the road- My woods edc is my spydie military (cf bg42 steel = realy light and sharp)

More Expensive- My small sebenza is my edc and works great for what you are talking about

about eight years ago i took a bunch of teenagers to south africa and we put on a hunter education course for them, as a gift for the professional hunters that helped with the instruction i brought spyderco enduras, which the south african professional hunters were fond of , and some cold steel large voyagers which the south africans had not seen before, about three months later i was talking to my friends there and they responded that they cold steel knives had performed for them very nicely, they were well received and had been used heavily on hunting trips and had done well. they are not expensive, perform very nicely, and come in different sizes depending on your needs.

Ok now its down to 2 benchmade griptilians and emerson a100, i like the a100 blade more but its lock might not be as reliable/tough as benchmades, this is hard. help me decide

nvm everybody, thanks for the help ive decided, im going to get the benchmade griptilian, now to figure out which model

I would not worry about the lock issues with the A100...mine is rock solid. If you look hard enough, you can find that every locking mechanism has failed...somewhere along the line.

Personally not a fan of BM's(to each their own) but I am sure it will serve you well.

I recommend the standard Spyderco Endura in VG10. The Endura with ZDP-189 has better edge holding charastics but takes longer to sharpen.

I agree - I won't have anything to do with Benchmade any more.

ROCK6: I've heard it was than I saw another production run, so I'm not sure what the ground truth is

Thanks for the reply Rock - I'll check into it. Funny looking knife though. Maybe you get over after playing with the knife for a bit???

As Tuf seems to have made up his mind, Doc, why don't you like Benchmade? I've carried mine for years and think it to be the best folder I've ever had. Solid lock-up, holds an edge, (ATS-34) and is comfortable in my hand. What's your complaint with them? Have you had one fail on you?

I've had most of the various full size griptilians including the ritter and the best cutting one is the latest hollow ground model the 550HG (round hole). I don't know if the thumbstud model the 551 comes with a hollow ground blade now but this 550HG is one of my sharpest best cutting blades. I find it a little big for edc in the city but it's perfect for the outdoors. I keep a fixed blade in my pack but I rarely use it anymore. The 550HG does almost everything that I need my knife to do.
