I Want to buy a knife or 2, and am willing to spend like 75$. I'll probably buy from Amazon with some gift cards from the holidays. I will be using these knives, bit not abusing them. I camp, fish, hunt, etc, and also want something for edc type tasks. I was thinking a crkt budget ripple, and a blur. The Kershaw hinderer collaborations are great looking as well, but I don't know about how useful. I am a kid (almost 15) but know how to use knives, knife safety ect. I have had a few Saks and Multitools, and now I want a real knife. I won't be cutting people up or taking these knives to school, just us using them as tools and for fun in the woods.

BladeHQ has a limited run Kershaw Slyline, blue scales and black wash for around $70. There are 213 of them in I think, they won't last long. I just picked one up.

Welcome to the Board. A lot of good information, and some other young folks your age. Stick around and be prepared to do a lot of reading! If I had your budget, I'd pick up an Ontario RAT 1, and a Mora fixed blade. Actually, you could pick up a RAT II also. So, three pretty decent knives for $75. There are plenty of folding knives you could get for around $75 from CRKT, Kershaw, or Buck also.

There are a ton of very good knives available in that price range. Ka-bar ,Becker,Ontario are some brands with good fixed blades. Ka-bar Dozier folders are excellent and under $25. Ontario Rats and two are very good and less $30 each.
These are brands and models I have first hand experience with but I am sure you will get many good recommendations from others as well.
Just read the old topics and you will soon find lots of info on most any you are considering. Good luck.

Not sure he'd want to blow 90% of his budget on a Skyline, which really, would handle EDC chores and that's about it.

(runs and hides before all the Skyline faithful show up with their pitchforks) :D

An Opinel and a Mora would handle all of those tasks, and then you'd have $55 to spend on whatever you'd like, including a ripple or blur.

For great value knife to use in the woods, look into the Becker line.
With the great prices you guys in the US have, you could be able to afford a Ontario Rat 1/2 and a BK-16 ?
That'd be a great combination methinks. Ontario makes some great value fixed blades too, if you don't like the Beckers.

For your stated usage, I have to agree with this. If you want a beefier EDC, maybe substitute a Utilitac II in place of the RAT.

If you want them both beefier, maybe a Cold Steel GI tanto and a Utilitac.

Rat 2 (for edc) = $26, Mora Light My Fire (for outdoors and in the woods) = $26, Victorinox Cadet SAK (for everything else and pocket carry) = $25

Grand total is $77 and everything is covered for ya!

As was said before, the classics: Opinel, Mora, Nontron, etc.

AAAaaaaaand the 3 default recommendations for beginners:

1. Ontario RAT 1 (or look at the RAT II for a smaller Version)
2. BRK / ESEE Zancudo
3. Ka-Bar Dozier

All under $ 30,- and all offer a lot of knife for the money.

I have plenty of much more expensive knives, but I have to say, the Zancudo was a welcome impulse purchase. I actually have two of them now, the red and orange scale versions. I am actually awaiting the larger "RAT 1" sized version that is rumored to be coming out shortly. I will definitely add a couple of those to the collection. Plus, the best thing for me is that my RAT 1s, RAT 2s, and Zancudos are a welcome splash of color in an otherwise "blacktical" lineup that my collection is. :D

I have money to spend here, so I don't need a complete budget knife. I would like something with good value, but I also want it to look decent, be semi discreet cuz I'm in the city most of the time. I have no problem with spending > 30$ on a knife

Well there are a thousand sub 75 knives. Question now is, what do you want in a knife? Do you care more about the steel? Fit and finish? Blade profile? What kind of opening do you prefer? Thumb stud, hole, flipper? Do you want assisted? Serrations, and if you like them do you care what kind, something like spyderco's or something more like CRKT Veffs?
And so on.

Dynamic beat me to it. If your budget has expanded, then we're going to need a few more criteria in order to try to frame up responses.

I don't want serrations, but they would not kill the deal, I don't want blade play, and the knife should be well put together. I LOVE flippers, but other opening is perfectly fine. Assisted or not is not a huge problem. Would prefer something not assisted or that I could de assist. Blade should be somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 preferably

Standard Rec's

Ontario Rat I&II
CRKT Carson M21
Bear and Sons Standard Hunter

I have seen BM Grip II's for around $75
