A knife like the MOD CQD is very good, BUT... any locking folder with have problems with all the dirt/dust. I was going to suggest a knife like the 710 m2 steel Axis, but the axis would get very very dirty.

I would go for an M2 tool steel Nimravious from BM. 4.5" fixed blade, so not overly long, but holds a great edge.

Failing that an A2 tool steel Chris Reeve fixed blade?

I think Im going to go with a BM Nimravus cub.

Anyone out there have one that they have used heavily? How did it hold up?

I dont want to spend $100 and have the knife not perform very well.

I have and have used my Nimravus Cub. The knife is nice-tough, tiny, and sharp. BUT!!! There is a wimpy skeleton style tang and the grip get dust under it easily. Plus, you will DEF need a new kydex rig for it, especially if you'll be carrying it everyday.

Take a look at John Greco's Companion Cub. Better steel, thicker, full tang construction, and very simple well made leather sheath. Price is about the same, if not LESS than the BM, and the knife is much tougher. I think bladeart.com has a good listing of john's work. His knifes are nice.

Also, for the epitome of the working class knife...try looking over at newt.livesay.com for you may find somehting overthere you might like. For you application, the Bow Hunting Buddy on a hip rig would be PERFECT!

$9.95. $19.95 with the nifty leather hip-pocket sheath.

A lot of the suggestions have been for knives that you can abuse, throw away after a while, and buy another of (due to their quite cheap prices). I second the Busse Basic #5. M-INFI will almost definitely hold a better edge than M2, and is also tougher and more rust-resistant. The handle is very comfortable and sure on the Busse aswell. They can be had for around $135 or so (can't remember exactly. The sheath that comes with it also is quite nice (the kydex one, I'm not sure about the leather, as I haven't heard much about it).

You can HEAVILY abuse this knife, and it will keep going strong.
