Help me please. I am lookiing for a small fixed blade. I like the design of the Arclite by DDR and Camillus. But what I want is something in a better steel with handle scales. I've looked a lot of places but nothing I've seen is "just right", except the custom Arclite or something by Neil Blackwood. The problem is I can't afford to spend that much right now so I'm looking at production knives. Any suggestions?

One source for inexpensive but good small knives is the Ragweed Forge website. The owner carries a wide assortment of Scandinavian knives.

what's your budget? You might want to check out the REKAT pikuni, siminoch designed small fixed blade, just under 100 I believe, in D2

The Fallkniven WM-1 and the Spyderco Moran Drop point are pretty hard to beat. Harder if you consider the cost.

Ben

Thanks for the replies. The Pikuni is one I placed an order for when they first came out, but my credit card declined because of a late payment:( . I forgot about that one. The TRAK looks sweet, and fun too. I'll definitely consider that one. That WM-1 is nice and reasonably priced. I don't really care for the looks of the Moran, though I'm sure it is a great knife from all the praise I've heard for it. Thanks guys. Keep the suggestions coming.

I have a Strider MFS that's a great small fixed-blade. Downside - $200.

These are all nice knives. I got an offer for a Crawford/Kasper neck knife with ironwood handles that was almost too hard to pass up on. If only I had more $$. That arclite from A.G. Russell would be about right if it had some scales on it. I'm just trying to get ideas here to help me out with a decision in the very near future, so keep 'em coming.

Take a look at Bladeart.com. I have seen alot of small blade knives advertised there. John Greco's knives are very good, often made of A2 steel, and less expensive than other customs. Also, I have seen some positive comments on some small Allen Blade knives called "Chipmonks". They were being offered on Bladeart, last I checked.

One mistake in my previous post - the Allen Blade knives on Bladeart are called "Magnum Monk", not "Chipmunk". They have 2.5 inch blades made of D2. There are some Greco knives with 3.75 and 3.25 inch blades, and they are less expensive than the Magnum Monk knives. I use my Greco Companion for all of my household chores.

Bladeart sells a wide variety of custom knives, so you could probably find something you like there.

Get the D2 Arclite and have our own Taz put some G-10 or micarta scales on it. Here's a 420HC version he did for me. I may pick up a D2 and give him a little more work.

Hi. Email me if you are interested in an arclight and having me do scales for it, I also do complete custom knife work, too. The D2 arclight is a nice blade, BTW. I got to put G10 scales on one a little while back and it was nice :) Great steel :)

If you don't have to have stainless steel, then another brand to consider is Marble's. Their knives are very highly praised for the 52100 steel and convex grinds. The models with the gamegetter handles start at around $60 from the internet dealers.

Actually Knife Outlet lists the smaller Marble's knives with gamegetter handles for $55. The gamegetter handles have longer guards, if you like that feature.

The Fallkniven knives get the most praise for Scandinavian knives, although aren't those with VG-10 blades actually made in Japan? The Norweigian Helle brand looks interesting, with small knives which are a bit less expensive than the Fallknivens. Many of the Helle knives have laminated stainless steel blades. I don't know how these compare to the Fallkniven VG-10 models.

Hey, thanks for all the responses guys. I didn't think I'd get this many. All good suggestions.
-Taz, I'll be emailing you shortly.

One last suggestion - the Busse Assault Shaker is one very tough 2 1/2" neck knife that is built like a tank! Excellent edge holding in .25" INFI steel ... will slice paper easily or cut through the hardest materials you'lll ever likely need a knife for.

Doug:)

Why does it have to be the last one? I'm always open for more suggestions. By the way, small doesn't have to be Neck knife small.
~4" blade give or take is okay too. That Assault Shaker is interesting too. How is availability on those?

I'd second the suggestion to have a look at Ragweed forge, a fabulous selection of Scandinavian knives at very low prices. Not a lot of choppers in the line up, but a lot of great utility blades. I carry a Swedge II that I got from Smokey Mtn. in my day pack. A razor sharp 2.75" utility blade with a nice wide shape, flat grind to the spine, and a plastic handle. Fabulous knife for what $12.00 or something like that...

About a month ago I saw a nice looking Buck knife with a 4 inch ATS-34 blade advertised on an internet site. However, I can't find it now. The price was right at $100.
