something that willchop and still be able to do trap making tasks just basicly a good machete fo campin and sapling killing

If you are going to be chopping woody material as opposed to grasses and softer vegetation then an Ontario machete would fit your needs well.

The 12" model is nice for camping.

+1 on the Ontario. Convex the standard 12" "D" guard version, cut off the guard, shape the handled and you have yourself a great tool for under $20.

Get a 14 inch Tramontina Bolo. You can buy 2 for 20 bucks :-) A cheap carbide sharpener like an Accusharp will make it NEAR shaving sharp ina few passes. I do not know what steel Tramontina uses, but, it rocks and is easy to sharpen. It will rust tho.

I second the trams machetes. They are very easy to sharpen and if you loose or break one. It won't hurt the pocket book. Just 2 days ago I used my 14" Tram and it very dull from hitting my fence. ( I have honey suckle vine every where and they are choking my rose bushes to death.) I looked around for a smooth lime stone and a small paver stone to sharpen it. It worked like a charm!

Both work real well, the only thing is the Ontario needs some work to put an edge on it but the ColdSteel Machetes jusd need a few passes with your ark. stone & they will shave you  but Both are tough as nails

D'oh...THat always happens to me to...Maybe it's a sign that I need to to keep it and send it out to be convexed...
