I need a new coarse stone. Help me select one

Nella's on the left. Wish I had a true before and after. That pic was taken after a couple hours workin on it. I just used it as a machete and beat the tar out of it limbing dead wood and new growth on an old apple tree I have out back. Blade didn't miss a beat and it felt really nice in that use. Just got a nice 5 dollar machete. 10 bucks for all five. The two dexter carters are thrashed, the blades are wavy if you look down them. The other chef style knife is pretty robust and has a Japanese stamp on the blade, I'm keepin that one. It needs some blade profile work, big flat in the belly of it, that'll be a fun project. The other wood handled, a slicer maybe? is a Farberware, looks like it's never been used.

Confirmed. I've now done a good amount of work on no name Chinese cleaver that says "Stainless" and "2" on it. It was blunt as a butter knife with terrible inconsistent bevels. I'm not done with it, but I ground off a bunch of steel last night. It made TONS of mud. ...and this time I only soaked the 150 for 8 or 10 minutes. So it's definitely the steel type and perhaps some break in too. But probably just the steel type.

If the stone can actually cut into the steel, the abrasives will fracture off or get torn out when they dig into the steel, and this will produce the slurry. When they can't cut into the steel very well the points of the abrasive sticking out of the binder will just wear down.
