I need a new knife for camping/backpacking/hiking etc.

Battle Horse Knives and LT Wright knives (Formerly Blind Horse Knives) have mulitple options to fit the build. All work horses, semi customizable, and sharp as can bee. Take a look at the Woodsman Pro model.

Look up Gray Wolf knives. Aaron Gray makes an outstanding knife within your budget.

I picked this one up and it is remarkably well finished and has great edge geometry.

I'll second that. Here is mine that just showed up a few weeks ago.

Fallkniven F1, my all-time favorite. ESEE products are also very nice. I prefer the ESEE 3, but hear the Laser Strike is a great choice in the 5" range.

I'll second this. I have a Battle Horse Bushcrafter and an Essiac with a custom handle. They are the sharpest tools that I own (except perhaps for a couple of Bark Rivers). I prefer a flat grind for ease of sharpening in the field (using the same tools that I use to sharpen my folders). However, you can order them in other grinds as well.

I have not yet tried Aaron Gray's work so I cannot comment from personal experience, but his work looks excellent and seems like a real bargain for what he charges for them.

when I think hiking/camp knife, the first that pops into my head is Fallkniven's knives

What can you recommend? I'm looking for straight edge fixed blade. I currently own a Kabar Mark 1 (kraton handle) partially serrated. It's fine for some tasks such as cutting rope and cloth, kindling, just small tasks. Its a good knife but I'm looking for something slightly bigger, such as: Ontario Rat 3, SOG Seal Team Elite, and a Gerber LMF II. Or if there's something better within the 50-125 budget, I would like to know!

Thanks

Hi. Forget Gerber LMF II they are rubbish IMO. I owned one. If I am sabby about the size of knife you want I would look into what I believe to be the among the best knives out there... Fallkniven A1 (6.3" blade), Fallkniven S1 (5" Blade), or the Bark River Bravo 1 (4 1/4" blade). I don't have allot of experience with Bark River, but Fallkniven are just fascinating in all respects.

However, if it were me I would consider a smaller knife for practicality purposes if you are hiking, such as the Fallkniven F1 VG10 (3.8" blade) and highly recommended!, Fallkniven TK2 (4" blade), Fallkniven NL5 Idun (3.9" blade) or the Limited Edition Fallkniven F13GLM- Green Micarta (3.8" blade). OR if your prefer Bark River in this size scale look into the Gunny (3.8" blade).

Lastly, If you are on a budget KABAR offers both compact and full length version survival knifes, which are descent knifes: easy to sharpen, with stacked leather handles and a blade thickness of sensible proportions.

I LOVE this topic, because it was the very same question that brought me to BF, and I still enjoy reading what people have to say about it.

Many people have mentioned the Becker line already. I'm loving my BK16 whenever I'm running around in the outdoors because it's functional, durable, inexpensive, and big-enough-but-not-bulky.

I would also steer away from the SOG Seal Team you mentioned. In my opinion, there are several aspects of it's design that make it a poor choice for a hard-use outdoor knife. All of the suggestions offered here will serve you better.

Best of luck!
