i need a new work knife...

Allyourblood, Sounds like you are surveying or perhaps foresty work!

When I was doing this I carried my SAK Soldier but found a light fixed blade more usefull.

A. G. Russel has a knife for $49.00 called the Deer Hunter....

They offer a choice of several excellent blade materials and the knife locks into the plastic case via a clip that is easily manipulated with one hand so your other hand is free to carry all the other stuff that you need to do your work....it's a petty good system!

yep, you nailed it, i'm a chainman. been doing it for about 8 months now, and i started totally green. funny thing about surveying: you either get easy days, or mercilessly tough days!

i'm looking at that AG Russell, and that's just about the ticket. i'm almost sure i want a fixed-blade now (i thought i'd NEVER say that!). i'm lookin' long and hard at all of the FBs that you folks have mentioned. maybe i'll head down to the store tomorrow and heft a few. thanks so much for all the suggestions (and if anyone has some more, keep them coming).

i'll certainly let you all know what i choose.

fixed blade : BK11 Becker "becker necker" or Cold Steel Master Hunter (factory second) folder: Spyderco Calypso jr or Endura-all provide great bang for your buck. Let us know what you decide on.
