Either system works fine for getting a shaving sharp edge (with a little practice). The EdgePro cost more and is more capable and versatile. You use water on the EdgePro stones so that is a little messy. In contrast the SharpMaker is faster and cleaner. A major re-grind on the EdgePro is a drag cuz it takes a while. However, that would be much worse on the SharpMaker.
