Seriously fellas, I’m off to the Galapagos in less than a month. I wish I had a stainless Becker to represent with.

Seems like I’ll be carrying a Spyderco Native Salt and a Morakniv Marine Rescue for when I snorkel. I may bring a Benchmade Griptillian in N680 too.

I’d totally love a BK34 (the BK14 is 1095cv, the BK24 was d2, the BK34 should be s35vn). I’d throw tkc extended g10 on it and I’d be very happy. :thumbsup:

Who else wants Becker stainless? :)

Very Nice GeofS :thumbsup::thumbsup: sounds like your going to have a very exciting trip!! The 24 might have to do it though as far as Beckers.

Remember to throw your toilet paper in the trash, and don't snuggle the lizards.
If a sea lion wants your beach blanket, just move over, don't spoon him.

And they're fairly serious about no outside fruits/vegetables/seeds (of certain kinds).
Don't eat the street ceviche. Seriously.
Or drink un-bottled water. Good news is that there's a very cheap, low-alcohol beer (~3%?) that is basically bottled water. :)

As for a stainless Becker, well... I can't help you this week. ;)

You forgot to mention don't try to ride the tortoise eather :)

If you acid-etch your knife, neutralize, and....basically...Rinse & Repeat.....you can take a High Carbon blade into a salty situation.

Wash it, dry it, and keep a layer of "forced oxidization" on it to protect it.

Have fun!

:thumbsup:

Thanks for all the words of advice, fellas. I plan on observing and leaving no trail behind. Street cerviche sounds like a disaster in the making.

Also, I still want stainless Becker. :thumbsup:

Street ceviche will definitely leave a trail behind. Emphasis on "behind".

re: tortoise wrangling
Somewhere I have a picture from the Seychelles... there was only a hat. If it were me in the picture, I would submit it to the IPRL for honorary membership.

Mora's are great, but rust easily... Even the Sandvik 12c ones. Rinse and dry them immediately and do not resheath .

Look into a beauchat dive knife or other freediving / spearfishing little knife .

They are like $50 and don't rust .avoid large ones or titanium .

The spyderco fish hunter would be a good EDC in an oceanic environment. Those serrarions and H1 are supposed to be a magic combination! Like 68 RC hardness.

However.... Check the laws first .

I think a VG-10 Becker bird and trout would be awesome... And I have an awesome idea for a stainless little Necker that's a modification to a bk11 .

VG10 might be a good compromise for a stainless steel that's not TOO exotic and expensive.

Following the BK14/BK24 dynamic, this could get interesting...

BK14 = 1095cv
BK24 = d2
BK34 = s35vn?
BK44 = ???
BK54 = ???
BK64 = ???

:D:D:D

That would definitely get you in on this years circuit! You may need to do some Photoshopping and submit that bad boy!

I was recently in Puerto Rico and tho I took my 15 (on my pack), pocket carry was Spyderco Pacific Salt, H1 (plain blade) - and a @goldknifeworks (daizee) birudashi, CPM154 (IIRC). I would love a (more) stainless 14/24, tho not S35vn...my experience has been chips and rolls on more than a dozen folders and fixed blades. Takes a great edge, but.... I think I'd rather see something like CPM154 for useability and lower MSRP. I'd love to see one in N690 - or any of the other high end steels I can't afford. But...yeah. And it should really be a BK15, if we're pie-in-the-sky-ing it...

Or you could try and find a 24. Mine's been pretty stainless, and I live along a saltwater tidal estuary, so I am familiar with rust and corrosion...but you'll want some diamond stones for ease of edge making. That's about as stainless of a Becker as you're likely to find. I kinda regret not getting a second one before they were disco'd.

I live in the Pacific NorthWest.
My Beckers will see some rust if not cared for.
I’ve thought about about SS Beckers before, but you’d be giving up 1/2 of what makes a Becker a Becker.
The 1095CV is a really, really good steel. It keeps a decent edge and doesn’t take much to sharpen. With a little TLC after every use there’s really no problem.
Esee made some SS knives and I’m not sure they were as popular as everyone thought they’d be...
