I Need a Stainless Becker: My BK34 Idea

Honestly, the stainless that closest mimics many of the characteristics of Becker's 1095cv is Sandvik 12c27.

Sharpens easily, affordable / great value, excellent performance and rolls instead of chips .

A hard supersteel or even a D2 large carbide metal doesn't really seem to feel like a Becker to me.

Perhaps for a special run, Ethan could use a little more exotic 14c28n.

I'd love a BK-15 is that!!!

A BK14c28n in full-convex grind would be insane . They could even sell unfinished blanks and boutique grinders finish them as they see fit...

Scandi, convex, FFG, swedged, sabre, etc .

Esee didn't use a stainless that folks wanted. 440C isn't a bad steel but nobody wants it anymore. Bradford makes a Guardian 3.5 in M390 that is closer to what we are talking about. It ain't cheap but hey, you gotta pay to play. If Kabar made a premium BK14 it would sell well enough in my opinion.

AEB-L or Sandvik 13C26 would be the thing.
Larrin has a good article on AEB-L over at knifesteelnerds.com
The large carbide stainless steels (440C and its descendants) are poor performance matches to 1095CV.

I read the article. Hated it. Don’t get me wrong, it was well written and full of really great information. I hated it because I immediately started looking for AEB-L knives and I don’t need more knives. I’m trying to stay on a knife buying hiatus. Thanks a lot Larrin.

Heheheh.
There aren't a lot of production knives in AEB-L, but there are some.
And don't forget 13C26. Kershaw, Buck, etc. Good stuff. The thing is, it really performs at higher hardness than you're likely to get out of the big manufacturers. Custom makers are running it in the 63Rc range for kitchen knives.

A lot of great information on this thread, guys. I’ve also seen some very cool custom blades in the steel you’ve mentioned.

The thing is, I’m a Beckerhead and I want to carry a stainless Becker. :)

Take a 14, it has the coating. Put a little Frog Lube on the edge and let us know how if fairs. Great opportunity for a Becker real world experiment! We don’t need no stinking stainless! :D

Frog lube, meaning coconut oil?

I'd really like a stainless Becker dive knife. For spearfishing!

I would gladly work with @Ethan Becker to help with that!

Nothing on the market is ideal yet and the stuff that other non dive cos are coming up with, aren't doing it right.

You guys are sharing some good ideas, but, I want a BK?4 in stainless. Maybe a special set of three: maybe a BK34 in S35VN, a BK44 in AEB-L, and a BK54 in Elmax. I’d spend in the $250-$300 range and I’d even spring for official KaBar extended micarta scales on top of that.

Well, get that prototype in the forge. :)
My homage to Becker handles on an old, broken, U.S. Divers Sea Hawk chassis, very much stainless, now with Oak scales on a full tang.
