I Need A Tent!!!

I'm just curious. If its just you and your brother why you need a four person tent. It seems like a lot of unnecessary weight to carry.

OK, Its betweens a REI half dome HC 4, and a kelty yellowstone 4. I will ask my brother what one he likes, and then we will make the choice this weekend or maybe next. :)

Somebody told me about a tent that a two-year old could set up. No spikes or anything--you practically throw the thing in the air and when it lands it's good to go (this is probably an exaggeration, but still...).

This is the one I'm after--anyone ever hear of it?

I don't think these spring-loaded hoop tents are around anymore. Sportsman's Guide was liquidating them out a couple of years ago. They are pretty useless for anything but letting the kiddies play with them in the back yard. They are heavy, have NO stability, and aren't very well made.

Certainly not a 4 man option (it would be every man for himself), but I went with Jungle Hammocks for my son & I. Tarp overtop for rain/sun protection, and hammocks keep you off the ground so rocks, wet or uneven ground are not problems. As long as there will be trees where you're going, hammocks will provide vastly superior comfort for sleeping compared to tents.

There is a learning curve to using them, but proper tent set up also has a learning curve. There is a forum for hammock camping that you can visit and learn more about hammocks than you ever thought possible. Very friendly and helpful people there.

Ok we got a tent, its the Kelty Yellowstone 4. Its a very nice tent. We set it up without even looking at instructions in 7 minutes with rain fly!!! but its heavy, so when we start backpacking over night we are going to get the REI quarter dome. :)

I've always had good luck with REI and Eureka. I bought a Eureka Wind river 6 back in 1988 for a 2 month road camping trip and still use it today.
