I need a work knife

hmm. tough, cheap, light, good steel. get a BM grip. the 154 cm will do you good. Recon would be my second pick due to it being only Aus-8.

For $25 a Kershaw Clash makes a fine beater and you certainly don't have to worry about losing it. Some of the members here are dealers and you can pick up a couple of them for ~$20/ea.

So ive come to you guys for recommendations before and have not been disapointed :D. But here is my latest dilema... I work in the electrical construction field installing transformers switchboards running trustes, stripping wire up to 500 kcmil and cutting many many many zip ties, big ones... I need a knife i dont have to worry about quite as much as the kershaw skyline i carry now... it gets plenty sharp but the thin blade kinda makes me weary sometimes... I need something strong as a rock, and will hold an edge for at least a full day lol. Isnt extremly expensive and overly huge considering i walk idk how many miles a day on site. I was thinkin around a hundred tops but the cheaper the better for fear of losing it. I was thinking a cold steel model knife like the recon1 or ak47, but i really want a spyderco like the superhawk but its pricey, and ive heard great things on the BM grip... so idk i just wanted some others opinions! Thanks for the help!

Spyderco Gayle Bradley would fit the bill. You might also consider a fixed like the BK11 or Izula.

I second the Gayle Bradley. I've used mine hard and have no complaints. The M4 steel is very good.

Andy

i also recommend the spyderco gayle bradley. M4 steel is tough and holds an edge.

spyderco paramilitary or a sage 1!! the carbon fiber is nice at only 91 dollors!! :O

or even an emerson cqc 7 u can find one for a decent price and it is really solid

but i would go with the spyderco paramilitary...

a delica would do fantastic as well they have them in orange now as well..... i used a delica for about 2 years the vg10 holds an edge for a real long time and easy to sharpen and that knife will last u a lifetime.... ( so will the paramilitary )

OP, you're dealing with secondary cable, I suspect? I would recommend a serrated hawkbill (spyderco H1). With the use of moderate force, serrations will saw through the jacket enough to perforate it without getting into the conductor and the point on a hawkbill (or a wharncliff) makes it much easier /comfortable to pull down the length of the cable if you need to slit the jacket. If you use the big zip-ties like we use, serrations are the way to go. I splice everything from secondary to primary URD cable, Poly to PILC and everything in between going up to 800mcm/kcmil and this is what i've found to work for me, except for the lead in which case we use a chipping knife for the lead sheath.

Mora electricians knife or hultafors heavy duty are dirt cheap over here and you can buy seven for the price of the spyderco H1 folders.

Just checked out that mora electricians knife. With the wharncliff blade, it would work like a charm.

Ive got a mora on order! that will work like a charm! i guess ill keep the mini grip and mini ak47 i just bought for edc outside of work haha

I just saw this thread and was about to recommend a Mora Clipper, Companion or one of the many craftline models. I love mine and have another due in next week. For an inexpensive knife they are hard to beat.
