I usually spend my money on gun stuff, but every now and then I get the itch for a new knife. I'd like to spend more on knives, but would rather spend the extra on gun stuff. Anyway, I'm not into spending over $100 on a knife although I would if I had more disposable income. I currently have a buck stryder, cold steel recon 1 tanto, and a crtk m16sf. I like to carry big knives and have been looking around for ideas but am having trouble. I like the new spyderco captain. I have plenty of liner locks and would like to have something like the captain with a slide lock. I don't prefer lock backs. I like the Zero Tolerance's but they are pricey. I like the MOD knives, but they are pricey. What's in my price range that fits my desires? Thanks for any help. I only have $100 or so to work with.

Well, if you like LARGE folders and wanna stay as fair a price as you can, check out the Kershaw Junkyard Dog II.

If you really want a nice large folder, I would try and save and buy something along the lines of the Benchmade Rukus. This is one brute of a knife. Smooth opening and closing with the Axis lock. Blade length of 4.25. I have both the full size and the mini, and they are both my EDC. Large on right, mini on left.
The pocket clip is reversible so it works just as well leftie as rightie. THe Axis lock is fully ambidextrous. The nlade is CPMS30V which is a unbeatable steel. You have to be cutting nails to dull it.
You should be able to get one for just a bit more than your quoted figure. Well worth it in my book.
Oh, I have lots of big knives, including the afore-mentioned Junk Yard Dog II, Harsey Tactical. BM Skirmish, MOD CQD MK I, Spyderco Military, Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5, and some I have forgotten. All of them are stored in cases and the two BM Rukus go with me wherever I go. I have not found anything I like better.
The two Rukus are in the photo of my usual EDC.
The .45 is a Kimber with a Mitch Rosen holster.
The .32 is North American Arms Guardian with Desantis ankle holster.
The flash light is a Surefire U2. The tool a Leatherman Charge XTi
Not included in this photo are 2 spare mags for the .45 and 1 for the .32, and my Razor black phone.

I did look into the Ruckus. I may have to look harder. I just now came across the Sog Pentagon Elite II. Any thoughts on that?

Spelled Rukus. I always thought Benchmade chose their spelling to get away from that bad name thing. You know. knives with bad-ass mall ninja names get ya in more trouble just because of the name.

I just am not impressed with SOGs choice of blade steel. Just like CRKT, it looks nice and all, but I just don't like the cheap choice of steel. I guess you might say I have been spoiled by the CPM steels. CPM S30V is a really great steel to make a knife blade from, it holds an edge seems like forever. It is really the first steel that was especially designed for cutlery use. All others have been borrowed from some other field.

Check out Kershaw Speedbump or Specbump  Also check out Kershaw JYD II. Spyderco Waved Endura or Benchmade Griptilian(full size).
I have a Kersaw Bump & its a large fast knife, I also have been packing a Spyderco endura (old model) for about 4yrs now & I like it, Lite weight for a large knife & has a slim profile !

A lot of these knives that you think are large, I think of as medium sized. Really? the Endura large? Right!
After you have a Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical, Benchmade Skirmish or Rukus, Mod CQD MK I, Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5, the older Al Mar SERE Folder, or anything with a blade over 4.0 inches, the ones you talk about are small.
I have a Junk Yard Dog II and do not in any way consider it large. Medium suits it well. Less than a 4.0 blade I consider it medium. Less than 3.0 blade I consider it small.
JMHO. Sittin here :jerkit:

The SOG Pentagon Elite was my first serious EDC; I loved it at the time, but recently I've lost a great deal of respect for the SOG arc-lock folders because most of the time their liners are soft as butter and add nothing to the overall strength of the knife. If I were ever to replace it with a similar knife (and I'm thinking of it) I'd go for a Benchmade, maybe a mini-Rukus or a Griptillian. My EDC of late has been a Sebenza, so I too find myself spoiled by the CPM supersteels.

MANIX! by Spyderco.

Its got everything you need for hard use.

Post is for a "Large Tactical folder".
Spuderco Manix is anything but large.
It is about equal to the Endura, which I do not consider large by anyones standards.
But the Manix is a nice medium knife.:D

Yep-its not the biggest folding knife granted but make no mistake it will do everything the Rukus, Camillus or Voyager will do. :)

as for the endura, thats not even in the same sport, let alone ballpark...great knife EDC for lo pro but the Manix is made with better steel, better lock and G10 slabs.

I'll give another strong vote for the Rukus, just got one for christmas its the mini but it not really that small. IMO I could not see getting a better knife for the money.

Well i can't know for certain but I'm waiting for my package of a Cold Steel XL Serrated 5" Tanto and XXL (or X2) 6"Clip Point. Total inc. shipping to my country is a little over 100 bucks which is swheet IMHO.

I own a Kershaw JYD II and I'll have to say it's not of the large folders (not small either) like the SOG Pentagon Elite II but the width of the JYD II's blade makes it 'feel' big. Plus IMHO I love Kershaw. I'm getting a Lahar by post soon too and it ain't small. All my Kershaws mentioned are not over 50 bucks but they should be!

(To note, the BM Rukus is worth the money for the steel and the quality. However I'll wait till I recuperate from bankruptcy b4 I spend again.)

Seriously...Save up alittle bit more money and buy yourself a ZT 0200...You really won't be satisfied 'till you do, and you won't be sorry that you did.

Welcome to the forums!
Since you are a sniper, you need a Cold Steel 6" Vaquero or an X2 Explorer. The Vaquero is under $100 and will cut through just about anything. Overall length is 13.25". You can abuse it all you want and it will keep on going. You will even have money left over to get some sub-sonic .308.
