I need car advice badly !

It may have been that the mechanic over tightened the brake adjustment. That will make your brakes smoke and cook everything. Sounds like a con job to sell you more parts and labor.

Solution: get a reputable mechanic to check the work out. Take up the evidence and sue em good.

They have lots of complaints against them, but they seem interested in maintaining a good BBB record by trying to resolve them. This probably means that if you make enough noise, you will get action.

This is another thing to put in your file, then. Go to the BBB's site and download the complaint paperwork and fill it all out and have it ready to go. When you rummage through the file looking for the copy of the invoices and real mechanic's report to give the man, make sure he just happens to see that set of paperwork too.

dang this is like "evil plotters of the world unite"! haha

but yea. you and your pops deserve the money back for sure, so i say do what golnick recommends... seems like you got alot of expereince in this field golnick :D

cheers

Sounds like they didn't know what they were doing. My automotive teacher used to work at pep boys and he didn't know a dam thing, well he new how stuff worked and could fix things but I new as much as he did. Pep boys must have a bad selection of mechanics and techs. Do what Gollnick said.

i would say they just "threw" parts at it hoping to get the right combo to fix it, but that would be difficult to prove, do ya have the old parts?? if not i would say "no case" as they are gonna say "we replaced broken stuff" and if ya dont have the old parts ya have no way to prove they didnt do exactly that. we have all the paper work so far ..

also most garages make ya sign a release prior to any work,

dont mean to be a pessimist, i also hate garages that prey on folks that dont know any better, but its just hard to prove they dont know WTF they are doing/intentionally ripped ya off ............

i worked in that area for a while when i was younger, worked at 4 diff places, 3 of them would never rip ya off, 1 would and did though which is why i quit.

No we never asked for the old parts ... but We did have it towed to a dealer today ... I think if they say it was something other then what pep boys said it was I will have a good case .... None of the times did they ever say it was the abs system until yesterday when my dad asked them what they was gonna do ... They said the whole abs system just happened to go bad after my dad took it to them ... They said its just one of those things that happen ... They would not even tow it to the dealer for us ... They are just saying its not our responsibility!
I guess I will see what the dealer has to say about the car and proceed from there .

A link to the bbb forms and a little info about how to file a small claims suit would be very helpful ..
thanks guys ..

Also I spoke to the manager at the first pep boys he told me he had no clue what was going on with my dads brakes ... He said he make it right thou !
So i guess making it right was to send it to another pep boys ... when the second pep boys fixed it my dad ask the guy what was wrong they said the other pep boys must have adjusted the caliburs the wrong way ... Then my dad called him back when he got home and hes like its your whole abs system went bad ... its just one of them things that happen :(

i havent ever heard of adjusting calipers, they arent like drum brakes that ya used to have to adjust.

I just relized that the only reson they messed with the brakes was because my dad told them the ABS light was on ,,, Aint that light allways on with ABS brakes ???

Wanna get Pep Boy's attention quick? Go to the local newspaper and have them run a story about what happened to you. Once the whole town/village/city knows about it, they (Pep Boy's) will get off their collective butts and make it right or risk getting no more business at all!

Hi All-

Kennieyk, another important consideration is to secure a credit card for your father...even if it is attached to your account. He can always pay you cash for emergency purchases he makes. The customer service team at American Express is outstanding at helping with problem resolution. It is much easier to get businesses to the negotiation table if you've essentially removed the money from their cash register in advance.

Probally not the ABS system but possible. while the brakes are locked up, loosen the brake lines at the master cylinder, if the brakes release it will be a issue with the master cylinder push rod, power booster or pedal linkage, If they do not release loosen the bleeders at each wheel location ( are they all locked, one only? front only? rear only? ) if one only and it does not release it will be a problem in that paticular brake assy, if more than one and they do release it may be a ABS problem. In fourty years in thid bussiness I have never seen master cylinder cause this problem, It is almost always the pushrod to the master cylinder is not retracting enough for some reason. Is yor dad a Tripple A member, if so call them for a referall in your area, its part of their service.

Good Luck Leon Pugh

Many older caddilacs with rear wheel disc require adjustment on the rear calipers for a low pedal condition when the actuators stick.

The ABS light should show momentarily at engine start and then turn off. That way you know the circuit works to report a real problem and you know the ABS system is good when it turns the light bulb/display off.
