I recently found that I need a flashlight when I walk my puppy at night, or its way too dark.

Anyone got any suggestions? The acronyms are killing me

I am looking for something small, 1 or 2 batteries are fine. I think AA is the one I prefer, easy to find. A nice small bright light

I read that Surefire, Fenix, and Arc can all be good choices, any suggestions?;)

Fenix are great lights... very bright for their size and definitely pocktable... Also, look into Olight brand flashlights... very similar in almost all aspects to Fenix, but have the edge in fit and finish... I carry the Olight T10 every day and I couldn't ask for anything more... It uses Cr123a batteries. While a bit more expensive, the have a great shelf life (10 years!) and on the lowest setting of the T10 you will get over 30hrs run time! And on high... you will be bushing 180 bulb lumens for a hour and a half!

Blazem Gem,
For the last 6 months or so I have carried a Fenix 2PD or a 3PD. I have had no trouble with these lights and would recommend either one or both. The 3PD 180 lumens 2PD 135 lumens and the newer ones are even brighter.Prices are $65.00 or so.

I have a fenix L1T, which is an awesome light. It uses i AA batery and only has 2 functions,high(90 lumens) and low(15 lumens). Much more simple to deal with then the 5 or 6 settings on some of the other lights. It also comes with a momentary on tactical tail swith and a regular tail switch. Great deal for $46.50 at the fenix store.

While I love Surefire as a brand in general... And really like my 6P led, the size never really allowed me to use it as an EDC type light. Im really not fond of a the idea of having to holster it. It is too large for the pocket for me...

The thing that gives the Fenix and Olight a big advantage IMHO are the adjustable brightness settings and the sos/strobe function... They also have the Q5 emitters!

If you are looking for a Surefire that would be a nice EDC, I would tell you to consider the E1b... 80 lumens on high, and a low setting of 5 lumens... Great edc size and Surefire reliability and customer service!

If your willing to go two cr123 batteries, I'd suggest a Surefire C2. You can stick with the bulbs or buy one of the plethora of LED drop-in modules. I like the size and shape of this light when going for walks. The 65 lumen bulb works well for walks.

If going AA, Fenix (Fenix being popular at the moment) and Blackhawk have some nice two cell battery lights. Rememeber to shop around for price.

Single cell AA flashlights include the Fenix brand, as well as Proton.

Of course, there are literally dozens of others to consider.

PEAK LED Solutions has some nifty lights that seem to have a following, plus you can email them and they can point you to a product that'll probably meet your needs well.

If looking for a AA or AAA then that rules out Surefire. The ARC will not be as bright as the Fenix. Many of the Fenix's have lots of functions, some people like that, others don't.
Personally I carry a Fenix L2T on my belt and a L0D CE in my pocket. Both nice lights with good output and runtimes.

hey guys, thanks for all the options.

But everyone seems to have a different advice?

I will thin it down to Fenix- AA or Double AA

Price range would prefer under $50.

Recommend Fenix L1T V2. Nice and compact, with economical running on 1 AA battery. Even more economical if you use rechargeable NiMh batteries (would recommend Sanyo Eneloops). It's low power mode (15 lumens) would probably be sufficient for your night walking and you have the option of its high mode (90 lumens) for emegencies.

Please note that this light is now discontinued. A new version may be available in the near future. It is still available from Fenixtore.com and you can get 8% off using the discount code CPF8.

If you require a light with a few more light modes, then Fenix's L1D Q5 would fit the bill.

Hehe... Ya peoples recomendations will vary a lot with a question like this... You should try and be a bit more specific with what you are looking for.

Its kind of like asking what knife you should get as a EDC without giving any more info... You will get plenty of advice and recomendations from SAK to Strider...

Just ask and I would be more than happy to help... Take a little time and figure out what you will be doing with it, what size you would prefer, and what brightness level will be adequate for you... that should help us out a bit!

it seems it will be the Fenix L1D.

There is a version with 2 settings, and another with 4 settings.

Are the four setting lights really useful? or are they just a hassle?

thanks!

The Fenix L1D has the following 6 modes -
this is for the Fenix L1D-Q5
General Mode: 12 lumens (25hrs) -> 53 lumens (5hrs) -> 107 lumens (2hrs) -> SOS
Turbo Mode: 120 lumens (1.5hrs) -> Strobe

Twisting the had accesses the two sets of modes -
tapping the tail-switch changes the modes - so it is very easy to use.

The Fenix L1T v.2 has
two digitally-regulated output levels, selected by turning the bezel
High level: 90 lumens, 1.5 hours
Low level: constant 15 lumens, 15 hours

I have linked the Fenix-Store.com which has a very fine reputation.

I wear a head light when walking my dog at night. I feel that it is a better option for dog walking for me. I always DO have a flashlight on me at all times. My $.02.

It would be nice to have different settings, I like to have a flashlight that lasts at least 4 hours.
