HI All,

I need help. I have been interested in pocket knives for a while now and I love having one in my pocket. My collection includes:
Buck 301,
Case Stockman Jr. CV
Mercator k55k
Opinel #6
Opinel #7
Opinel Slim #8
Victorinox Pioneer
Victorinox harvester
a beautiful Laguiole
and a few others.

My problem is that I can't seem to find a perfect everyday carry knife. I really liked the Buck 301 but the weak springs are getting to me. The Vic Pioneer is also awesome but I'd prefer something a little more stylish. I guess I'm looking for a relatively slim and light pocket knife at about 3 and 3/4" closed with at least 2 blades. Ideally black/silver although other colors are nice too. I just like natural colors and smooth scales. It doesn't have to be expensive but should be very durable and excellent everyday knife. The quality is also important. The Vic Pioneer (or Electrician) would be perfect if it only looked a little more elegant.

What would you suggest?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Cheers,

Rafal

Have you looked at the GEC #15s (Charlows and Boys' Knives)? They are available in ebony and just might be what you are looking for.

The boys knife and white owl do look beautiful, almost what I'm looking for. I just wish they were a tad bigger. I'm afraid that 3.5" may be too small. That's the problem with a lot of GEC knives.

I kind of like the cigar ones but on the other hand, they may be too long. What do you think of this:

I think the GEC 85 is 3 3/4??

I love mine in the single blade and aren't they making some new two blades right now for CK?

They do look nice and are a right size but I'm not crazy about the main blade's shape.

What about something a bit less expensive?

3 5/8, but who's measuring. they are great knives though. Can't go wrong with any jack knife made by GEC in my opinion

you can get one of the boy's knives for around 65-70$, you can't beat the value. They are fantastic.

I don't think there is a perfect knife. I do enjoy the search though. My Dec changes almost daily. I rotate between Case Stock man, large and medium, Buck 301 &303, as well as several SAKs. All are almost perfect.

The one that finds its way into my pocket most often is a Camillus 72. I believe it fits your criteria. Well worth a look, as I consider it as close to perfection as I have found. Although out of production for some years now, they can still be found at very reasonable prices with a bit of searching.

GEC makes a Dogleg (48) in various handle materials and has both trapper and jack style blades. Case also has a cv Jack but the handles are jigged bone. then for blades on both sides of the knife, can look at muskrats from case and GEC, slim and sturdy.

I was intrigued by Case CV Muskrat but how would you guys justify having two blades that are the same? Doesn't it mean a bit redundant?

Hi Rafal.
I suggest checking out the GEC #79 Montana Whittler. It's 3.75" closed. It has (3) different blades, each on a separate spring. It's probably a little heavier and wider than you want but the blade selection is nice: spear (main), clip, and wharnie. I have one and the extra thickness makes it fit my hand really well. It's still available in ebony wood and buffalo horn since you mentioned you like dark scale colors. Good luck with your search.

That does sound about perfect except for the price. If I had that budget I'd get one of my grail knives which is kabar dogs head stockman (I legally love dogs :) ).

Try a Case trapper or stockman. A classic, and available in Case's excellent CV steel, for about 2/3 of the price of a GEC.

I have been in your place. I'm still in it. I have bought dozens of new knives looking for "the one". I have a thread on here about it. The fact of the matter is I have many knives now that I could use and could be "my pocket knife" like my wallet is "my wallet" or my hat is "my hat", but, I keep on looking, searching for that "magic" knife that stops me from buying or carrying others. Hopefully, you won't join me in my craziness.

In my thread mentioned above, I decided that my users would come and go over time and some would remain as favorites. Indeed, that has been the case. My current favorites are"
Case Mini Copperhead
Case Wharncliffe Mini Trapper
Schatt and Morgan single blade rosewood jack
Case Texas Jack
GEC white owl
GEC 66 jack
GEC Pemberton
GEC Tidioute 92 Eureka jack
GEC Barlows (aka, Charlows)
GEC Boy's knife
Case Copperlocks

"The one" is in that group somehere. Maybe.
