My husband does a little bit of everything and I think he needs a good knife. We've been out on the boat, four-wheeling, camping and MANY occasions have come up where he could have benefited from having a good knife handy to cut rope, old zip ties, a hose, you name it. I want to buy him a nice knife, preferably under $100 for Valentine's day that is handy, folds, can be clipped on his belt or pocket. I also like it when the knife can be opened and closed with one hand but it isn't necessarily a requirement. I bought an HK knife several ago as a gift for a friend and he absolutely loved it but I can't remember which one it was. Any ideas/suggestions would be fantastic!

Thanks!

Seems like a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 could be a good choice, it's around the upper end of what you want to spend. A Spyderco Endura 4 Wave could be a good choice for a quick opening knife and well under your price point. H&K Knives are pretty nice, you can get a Conspiracy for about $100.

Also, this is the absolute best smiley I have ever seen. Made my day!

Welcome. Best, maybe, but inappropriate for this subforum...hence the warning placed directly above it.

Get the hubby a Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Griptilian, by the way. Cannot go wrong with either. Universally beloved.

For what you are looking for the Spyderco Paramilitary 2, Benchmade Griptilian / mini grip come to mind. I don't own either but they should fit the bill.

I'd look at some knives from spyderco myself. They have all sorts of great utilitarian models but, out of those that I have, the one I carry most is a Salt 1. It uses h1 steel which will never rust and it has a little larger opening hole for opening with gloves or such. It does require sharpening more often than knives in most other quality steels but is easy to touch up and well worth it in my opinion, especially if he'd be using it around water, mud, etc a lot of the time.

You are probably going to get recommendations for about 10-12 different spydercos. They are very popluar and very well built knives for a reasonable price. You probably can't go wrong with any of the Spyderco suggestions you'll get.

I would probably shoot for a blade around 3-3.75" as that seems like a good length for general purposes. I personally like a parially serated blade (combo blade) because you have the straight blade for sliceing and the serrations for cutting rope/cord/seatbelts...ect. I also recommend a knife with good jimping (basically groves on the blade near the handle made for griping the knife better) because it makes handling the knife safer in many situations and gives you a good grip.

Paramilitary 2 would be good but they seem to be kind of hard to find at the moment. Manix 2 is also very nice for about $80-90.

Agreed. For boating, a 'Salt' series Spyderco is the way to go.

a Spyderco Dragonfly feels good in the hand, and has a lot of cutting power for a small blade, I own a Benchmade mini griptilian, very strong knife. there is nothing wrong with a made in USA Kershaw either

I would probably recomend the Benchamde 915 Triage. Its a sheepsfoot blade, so less dangerous in rough/emergency situations, and also less threatening to other people. It has a cutting hook. And a great deep carry clip.

Now I am wondering why I have't carried it for a while.

Lots of good knives in your range.

As others have said, Spyderco makes a great product for the money.

I would also suggest Buck. I carry the Large Vantage Pro.
For under $60 it's one heck of a knife.
Lifetime Warr., excellent steel, and "it's a Buck" (lol)

Seriously - I've given a couple as presents.
Never go wrong.

Lucky guy too. :)

Perhaps a benchmade torrent or griptilian, but the scales on the griptilian feel a bit cheap and the torrent has nice feeling g10 handle scales.

I think a griptilian, or a delica is a good choice. Pretty much anything from Benchmade or Spyderco will be a good knife for a guy.

I'd be beside myself if my wife picked up just about anything from Benchmade or Spyderco for me.
Having a bunch now, I'd have to say my favorites in the $100 range are both Spyderco's: The Sage 1 and Paramilitary 2.
Since it's mostly for outdoorsy work-type uses, I'd go Para2 for sure.

As you've read by now....Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Can be had for a bit over $100 in the basic S30V blade-steel, which is a fine steel. I've had many of them; my favorite carry knife in the price range below $300.

Does your husband have a good multitool? If not get him a Leatherman anything, or find a Charge Ti if he likes the finer things in life. If he has one already then you should get him something he doesn't have. A full Spyderedge Spyderco would be nice, especially if you found a Delica in a color he likes. If full serrations are not what you want, then go for something really nice. A Spyderco Sage 1 fits that bill. That thing is pretty much the classiest reasonably priced knife I have ever seen.
