I'm so ashamed.

Actually, it was the only place I could find the 18" Linder Machetes. I've been watching eBay for awhile and got impatient.

But get this- $27.00 order: $9.99 shipping!
So, I go looking for something else I might need to add to my order, just to make the purchase/postage ratio less scary. I've gotta tell ya, I don't remember when I've spent so much time, looking at so much nothing, before in my life. Yeah, they do carry some decent production knives, but not anything I couldn't get at the same or better prices elsewhere. I ended up getting a couple of sheaths for some CS machetes I have that are still living in cardboard sleeves. They were about $10.00 apiece, but their addition didn't raise the shipping any, and I was happier with the ratio.

So I am content.

I'm also trying to get a line on the longer Herbertz machetes (I believe 18" also). They look very, very similar to the Linders from what I've seen. Anyone have any knowledge of both?

Thank you for your patience, understanding, compassion and support. ;)

I've heard good things about Linders. They're a little thick, but I'm sure you know that and are looking for that.

Let's see. I don't want to deal spot, but just in general I found them at Knifecenter for more, and Amazon for the same price. Both of these places charge shipping as well.

I think you're out of luck on finding a deal since it's such a rare machete. If you want free shipping, Tramontina or Ontario :)

So don't feel bad. From the people that like the Linder, $27 plus 1/3 of $9.99 for shipping after your reduced ratio :) is a fine deal. Besides, even if you just got the Linder, $37 for a quality knife isn't bad.

Enjoy the Linder!

I'm not sure how nice the Linders are. I'm interested in them largely because of favorable comments I've seen posted here. Of course, I'm interested in any machete (duh!) but I like the looks of the Linders and the Herbertz.
I kinda prefer a thicker blade, because I like a machete that will chop well- for a machete.

I have very limited experience with the Tramontinas. I remember looking at them years ago and being horrified at the crapsmanship. They are probably better now, but I haven't given them a serious look.

I got the most use out of a set of three different Cornetas that I fear I lost in my move to WV a few years ago. They saw plenty of "backyard" work, a couple of excursions to the Everglades and a number of backpacking trips. I miss them, and I can't seem to find comparable replacements.

WOW! They're asking about $55 and up for them now. I eventually want to replace mine- it was stolen from my truck (along with a crappy stereo and my spare tire) many years ago. I had the all-black stacked leather model and you can't find those anymore. That and an SAK Tinker were my meat-and-potatoes field kit for several years.

Bud K threatened to stop sending their catalog if I didn't order something. They have a few decent knives but most of their stuff is mall ninja crap. I did not order, but the junk mail continues. Should have ordered a bunch of "Redneck Toothpicks", but then I figured it would be silly to pick just one tooth. Linder is a quality product. Bud K's shipping is high.

you should get one of these

zman- your thread is one of the biggest reasons I ran out of patience waiting for one to show up on eBay. I also ran out of pride and self esteem and went to BudK. :o

It's funny, when I look around at my machetes, I realize that all of my old users are gone. I still have plenty to use, just none that I have actually used yet.

I'm not sure what became of my trio of Salvadoran Cornetas (not the "Corona Clipper" machetes I keep finding instead), but I know I lost my two user Ontarios (one stock, one modded) to long term storage in a leaky garage. :grumpy:

I've got a small stable of machetes now waiting to show me what they've got. Many I got intending to mod, so I haven't bothered with them yet. Others are idle simply for lack of work. My Khuks tend to edge them out most of the time I guess.

I have a handful of short Collinses that I got cheap and wanted to re-handle. I have a few of the endless CS varieties- all needing denuding of their "ninja finish". I have a small assortment of war relics awaiting reconditioning. I have a beautiful Ricky Fowler machete- the big brother to his popular camp knife- that needs a cord wrap on it's slightly undersized (for me) handle. I think the only "ready-to-go" machete I have right now is the Gerber. I don't really care for sawbacks on machetes, but the grip on the Gerber is truly very comfy. Maybe if I let the yard go unmowed another week or two I'll get to try it out.;):D

Here is how pict modifies his machete. He is down in Brazil where machetes are as necessary as wearing shoes.

It's here!

My Linder arrived yesterday, before I left for work. I really didn't get to examine it until this morning.

I like it. Love the shape, the heft and the fact that it's already convexed.
The "dark wood" handle is actually very pretty- it looks for all the world like wenge.

The sheath is very secure. Four snaps secure. This is nice, I guess- but you have to undo all four snaps to draw the thing.

The handle is firmly attached with three stainless rivets. The tang is exposed on the palm side of the grip. The fit here could be better- there are slight gaps where extended use would lead to hotspots , but it's nothing some filler adhesive or a cord wrap wouldn't take care of.

No thong hole, which is virtually inexcusable for a machete. Easily added, though.

There is enough room at the ricasso to add a choil, and I believe I will.

I may also replace the pins with flared tubing and epoxy. I've seen that trend on other knives, and I like it.

I'm sorry it'll be a little while before I can post any "action" shots with it. I'm in a knee brace until further notice. I will try to get some detail shots here soon to post though. :)
