Hey guys my dad wants me to sharpen this buck knife for him. So I wanted to find out what model it is?? Also what steel it came with so I can figure out what angle to reprofile it to? And I know my dad wont ever sharpen it pretty much unless I do it now so whats the most durable angle for this steel? He'll be cutting cardboard, plastic pakages, paper, the general stuff.

Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it.

Awesome thanks keensharp. I just found it online now that you gave me the name of it. Looks like it came in 420hc. You think this that steel type would hold a good edge with just 15 degree edge?? Or should I put a microbevel on it??

Yes the Odyssey; came in two steel types.
Regular Buck 420HC SS and the better Hitachi ATS34 SS (which is clearly marked on the tang) - model #182 with carbon-fiber scales and #181 with plastic scales.

Its always easier to work with a set of sharpeners with a set angle "V" system.

I think its fairly safe to assume if its a modern buck it will be 420HC, unless it is specifically marked otherwise. I can't think of an exception to this if the blade is less than 14 years old.
