Guys, hear me out. I posted recently about sending my knife in for new studs and a new washer that I bent and just received the knife back tonight. I posted because the knife was gone over 3 months, no kidding. I was really starting to get worried, but now its back.

Upon opening the package, my heart sunk and I am just about to cry for this 500 dollar knife that I had for maybe 2 weeks before bending the washer, and had to send it back for 3 months. I included a note saying to replace the washer, reblast the handles, give new blue studs since they wore off in the first 2 weeks..............
.................and then I was very clear in my note NOT to sharpen the blade, and NOT to change the lock up, which was dead 50% which I felt was perfect.

So, upon opening the knife now, the first thing I notice is when checking down the spine to make sure the blade is still centered(which it was), I see that the knife is NOTICEABLY rounded on the tip...in fact so much, that the guy who sharpened it(Thats right, i said NO sharpening!!!) took a good deal of the tip off the blade, and the tip is noticeably not as far to the tip of the handle slabs anymore. I don't know exactly how much, but definitely at least 1/16 of an inch!!! And, when i sent her in, the blade was very sharp and I didn't cut anything with it yet, and now as I open the knife, it is apparent to the eye and the fingernail, that the entire blade is completely rounded, as if someone purposely dulled it in order to not get cut. I mean, this whole edge doesn't have any burrs, and it is COMPLETELY rounded!!!!! What was once a perfect knife except for the washer, is now a destroyed knife to me. When someone pays 500 bucks for a knife, why would they want the edge taken down considerably and lose steel on the blade and tip, to now only have a knife that has the lifespan of a knife that has been sharpened many times?

Guys, I have been on the forums and collecting and using knives for many years now, check my posts. I have NEVER seen anything like this, especially with all the great things I hear from everyone else about the CR service. I am literally just torn up inside. I don't know what to do now, the blade is literally so dull I couldn't even get it back sharp without taking a good bit more steel off, and I am not willing to do that.

This knife was freaking expensive, and it cost a good deal to ship it back for the washer with insurance of course, and the 35 bucks for the blue studs, and now after 3 months I get something back that looks literally like a kid tried to sharpen his first blade and ruined the crap out of it!!!

Now.....2nd Problem.....I asked also for them not to mess with the 50% lockup in my note, which they did not give back in the box, even though they gave me back my bent washers! And, again I am not exaggerating here.....The lock side with the ceramic ball that used to be about 50% in the middle of the blade, is a hair from actually touching the other slab now!!!!
I said Not to touch it, and not the knife lock up is at like 90%.

What the heck can I do? I called but of course they are closed already. And I just can't believe this. There has to be something wrong over at Chris Reeve Knife company lately, since this seems to be something very rare? Others have said service time has been a bit slow lately also, but come on, this is unacceptable.

Am I really supposed to send it back for another 3 months, and not even get to enjoy my first CR knife for a half a year or more since I purchased it from KSF?

Please guys, any advice or suggestions....This is the worst feeling in the world. Funds are very limited at the time, and now I hate to think about sending the knife away again, but I can't possibly keep this thing. The blade is freaking SHORTER than it was 3 months ago, and I even specifically asked for them not to touch up the edge.

Please guys, understand that I am NOT exaggerating by any means here. Like i said, I have been around a while now, and I am telling you the knife is completely a different knife than the one I sent in. Yes, this is my first CR knife, but I was just in love with it when I got it. It was truly PERFECT, and I have a strong eye for detail. Even measured the blade centering with my micrometer! Just perfect. But not now. The blade feels like someone rounded the entire thing on purpose, the tip is definitely shorter, and the lock up is completely changed for the worse IMO.

I even told Angela when I sent it in, that the knife was only 2 weeks old, and hate to lose it for the supposedly 4-8 weeks, and she said she would put a rush on it. 3 Months later, i'm supposed to be happy with this mess or send it back again?

Oh yea, and they literally filled every screw hole and pivot hole with so much freaking locktite, I don't even know how I would go about cleaning it all off without damaging the finish on the handles, all over again now. Why would someone put that much locktite on a knife that is meant to be taken down to clean? Whoever worked on my knife ruined the thing. I really am so upset right now.

I just want to cry. Any advice might help.

Dave

This seems like a terrible situation and I feel for you. Is there any way you could provide before and after pics? This would certainly help support your case, not only here but with CRK as well.

That sucks man, I don't have any experience with CR knives or their customer service but that is just poor, no matter what company you're talking about. Do you have before/after shots to send to them with your complaint? I would certainly contact them with photos of how it is now at least. Hopefully it turns out ok.

One thing, this probably belongs in feedback.

I'll just comment on the thumb studs and the lock up. I don't know why you wanted them to replace the thumb studs as if you're ever going to use the knife the blue coloring wears off quickly. As to lock up that can change based on assembly. Have you tried this disassembling and reassembling the knife to see if the lock up changes?

As to the other issues it sounds like talking to them on the phone will be much more beneficial than complaining here. Also I guess it's a possibility that It might not actually be your knife they sent back? Anyways I'm sure when you call them back they will have a solution for you.

+1000000000000

Please do talk to the manufacturer before posting on a forum. They appreciate it and will bend over backwards to help you out!
There are two reasons I know this; 1) I do this myself 2) Any issues I have had were taken care of by CRK- Notice I have never posted a thread on them :)

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. I would suggest strongly, as others have, to call them once they're open. Insofar as the lockup, rycen has it nailed - I can alter the lockup on my 21 by rotating the stop pin. That part may have been a matter of it getting rotated when they reassembled it. While they should have made certain it was to your spec, that part should be an easy fix for you.

The washers are fit to the knife, so I imagine changing the washers might change the lockup.

On a side note, not to flame CRK or anything, I did have a mnandi I sent in a while ago and requested for it not to be sharpened, but it came back sharpened anyway...didn't really bother me as the rest of their service was nothing short of stellar, but I do not find it hard to believe they sharpened yours as well when you did not ask for it.

I'd like to see actual photos of this damage, if you could manage.

Same here.

Give them a call and find out what's really going on. CRK been around for long time and I'm sure they will resolve all the issues you have.

Guys, I have been trying for the past few minutes to get a picture, but all I have is my iPhone and I just can't get a clear pic of the tip or the edge. I wish I had a camera. and, the B13 on the handles is what was there before, so I don't know if they mixed it up or not, but seems the handles are the same.
The only reason I asked for the blue studs was I only had the knife 2 weeks and it started to wear off, and since the knife was going back for the washer, I figured what the heck.
I will call them first thing in the morning, but I felt I should post here because I have been a member for a long time, and have helped others with problems also. I needed a place to vent, as like I said I am just torn up inside about this, and feel like now no matter what the knife will always be not perfect, instead of the perfect knife I sent in for just a plain old washer, that of course they couldn't just send me because the knife needed to be fitted, even though the pivot is adjustable based on how tight the screw is, etc.
Thanks for the replies guys, this sucks real bad. I am not happy with this knife at all now, and may just end up selling it for a good deal cheaper and take a loss. And yes, if I do this I will disclose why Im selling, but thats not the point. I wanted the knife the way I had it, and felt like it may have been the knife that got carried everyday for a long time. Wow, this is something else.

How do I remove the stop pin? IT seems its been altered, and I took the screw out and it still seems like it is threaded in the handle some how. But, I don't want to grab it with a pliers and scratch it...

I'm sorry but I think "destroyed" seems a little dramatic from what I am seeing in that photo.

I understand feeling frustration, but I really think some good advice involves calming down until you can talk to someone at the source. Sorry, but that is what I'd do...

Okay, maybe "destroyed" is a touch excessive, but there is really a good deal of steel taken off this edge. And, the reason I finally tried a CR knife, is because from what I know, the price you pay is not only for a knife, but for the service which is supposed to be the best. Like I said, it really seems like someone let their kid try their first knife sharpening on my brand new blade. And i did finally manage to loosen the lock pin, and no matter how it rotates, still the lockup is like 90%....

What really is bothering me so bad, is that the only option is to send it back for another few months.....How can that be possible. You sell product. I buy product. Send for repair after 2 weeks, and I don't get to see my baby back for probably something like half a year after sending it back another time now. Just sad feelings inside...

Do not rotate the stop pin on the 25. It has a groove that allows the blade tang to pass as it opens and closes. As far as the lockup can you take a picture of the tang of the knife?

Bummer. First thing to do is not let your happiness in life rely on a knife. Next thing call CRK And ask why they are letting children behind the grinder. I've seen lots of knife companies send out awful edges when they either changed sharpening processes or had to train a new employee. Either way, forget about it for your minds sake but call and get what you want. Can't put steel back on. Could fix that tip quick but like you said, less steel left.

thanks. I will call in the morning. Hopefully get a new blade at no charge, or a complete refund but I don't know if thats possible.

Tried taking a pic of the tang, but just not focusing with this camera. And, of course I didn't take any before pics because well, same camera, and who woulda thought? Did reassemble it a few times, and no go. Still at 85-90% lockup.

I bet they make it right for you. Good luck but remember whoever answers the phone probably didn't mess up your knife :)
