I need Help!!

Your blades look funny. Did you replace them? If so you may have left them as-stamped and so they are too thick to allow the pin to protrude far enough into the keyhole. Eric should be along shortly and tell you positively the problem and solution.

Blade Side Fits, Tension Side, one side at a time fits.

Thank You, for your quick response.

What I am saying is that if the tangs are left as-stamped they may be thicker than the tangs of the original blades, either in material thickness overall or because of an edge flash left from the die. Check both with a caliper.

ETA I reread and I think you are saying the pivot end is fine, but the other end won't close up. Are those springs original? They don't look like they have been glazed flush before. Again the thickness problem with possible flash.

This is Old "New" Stock:
@ Blade's, Spring's, Brass Liner/Divider's
@ Bolster's

I am building "4" New Knives, from Schrade Parts.

Back to the "Anomaly":
Looks like all I need to do is tap it down, but want to ask first before taking a (Press/brass hammer/wooden hammer/ vise), to it.

Ok, but as I suggested, wait for Eric or another cutler familiar with those parts and construction to reply for the most accurate answers.

Your original post was regarding a Schrade Uncle Henry 285UH

In this thread I see, "Schrade USA LTD. Blade and Spey Schrade Bolster 4 1/8"

The Schrade USA Uncle Henry 285UH and a similar Old Timer the 94OT, are both built on a 3 7/8" frame.
The 4 1/8" frame was used for the 96OT and 97OT, and several SFO's with the LTD marked blades.

I may be misunderstanding your project, just an observation...

Steven, as long as the center scale (liner) and the bolster scales (liners) are the same length (and the holes line up), you should have no problem. It is a tight fit in the slot area on the butt end of those knives, you don't want any gaps between springs. Might need to tap it down with a plastic headed mallet or something similar. If you have to do more than tap it, something's not lining up correctly. Don't forget that the center pin goes in last on these knives.

Just needed someone with experience to transcribe it!!

Thank You!!

Like Eric said, the center pin goes in last. I'm sure you know that you will have to compress the spring at the center to get the pin holes to line up.

I have been having fun with a few OT's recently, putting some new covers on them. Looks like you are having fun too, please share pics of the finished work when it's done.

I will do that, on posting to Pictures.
My order, for the (.093" x 6") Brass pin stock, comes in today. I used a 3/32 drill bit to measure the pin hole for attaching handles, spring.

Thank You Glenn and Eric, could not do this without you, for I have never done this before.

I noticed that all Center Pin and Spring Center Pin holes line up, when the two Blades are Locked Open:

STRIKE ONE!!!
Dang!! tried to use a wood vise to compress the spring so that the Center Pin could go through. I even filed the pin, do that it would be tapered.
I Still Failed, wood vise was not strong enough!!

Help Please!!

Are you saying a wood vise, like a flat long-jawed vise? That may not be the best choice. I use a standard bench vise for most of my tasks, just be mindful that those jaws can mar your work. A lot of mechanics line their vise jaws with leather.

Is this what you are asking?

It did not work, will use a bench vise next time.

Were those knives built before, or are these pieces you are putting together, like a kit? The bolster edges and springs look unfinished.

Yes - Pieces I am putting together, from parts I procured on eBay.

I have 4 - 4 1/8 knives and 1 - 3 7/8 knife to put together, needing the center pivot pin put in.

I would just be concerned that the parts might not fit together like they would in a knife already built. Don't get frustrated if it doesn't go smoothly.
