I need inspiration. Do you have pictures of small fixed blades?

I'm going to make the handle for a small fixed blade. The knife will be made for every day use.

The blade is about 2,4 inches and is made in a Scandinavian style.

I haven't yet figured out what shape the handle will have. I have brass, horn and wood available to make the handle.

Could you please show me some pictures for inspiration?

I just posted a different photo of this same knife in the Puuko thread, but here you go... :D
I'm really digging the shorter blade!

This is a small pocket puuko I picked up at a knife show. I liked the idea of a pocket fixed blade, and it does work out nice. This one is along side a Case peanut for scale. Blade is about 2 1/4 inch.

For a knife that size I'd stick with the classic barrel or Trout's belly profile, and avoid any birds beak on the handle.
This will allow for maximum versatility in hand grips and positions of the knife, and also, allow you to develop our own feel and ergonomics fro knife number two! ;)

There's a Finnish registered trader here Lamnia.fi (http://www.lamnia.fi/?lang=en&PHPSESSID=808e5f0ef2529624c62d7aed4198307f)

If you take a look at their knives section there are plenty of production and 'semi-production' knives by the Nordic makers.
The reason I also suggeset this site is that often there are multiple views of the knives, which can really help judge the shapes, curves and lines of the knives.

Best of luck and be sure to share the results.

Scruffuk sent me this lovely Scandinavian blade (Thanks again, mate!). It's a Polar 95, and is a nice, compact size for a pocket sheath-knife. Thankfully, the tang was really long, so I could put on a large enough handle to accommodate my catcher's mitt meat-hooks.

Here is the stock photo of a Karesuando Wolf. Very comfortable shape. The handles are birch and reindeer.

Scruff, those are simply gorgeous! Do you just do the handles, and buy the blades, or do you do the full monty?

Roselli does have a very small puukko - the Grandmother (as far as I can remember)

I don´t have such a small traditional fixed blade. The only pretty small fixed blade I have is a Böker Plus Gnome and that´s not that traditional :(

Ummm, ok, I feel like I should go back and delete my pic :D
What a great showing of beautiful knives, everyone!
