I need inspiration. Do you have pictures of small fixed blades?

Thanks for the kind words folks. I hope sogflash finds some inspiration from them.
It's certainly helped me to look back over them and prompt me to get back in the workshop. I've been a bit slack of late.

Scruff, those are simply gorgeous! Do you just do the handles, and buy the blades, or do you do the full monty?

Cheers amigo.
Following in the Nordic tradition ;) I just handle and sheath the blades. Once I've exhausted my stash I really should see to getting some of my own hammered or ground.

You sure do make a find knife. I found myself staring at them...lol

Thanks Gev.

Thanks for all the pictures. It'll help me make a handle to fit the blade.

No probs. I know when I was starting I just looked at as many styles and examples as possible. Overtime I develop my long slender style, but it stems from the profile of the blade. The blades shape really dictates the flow and feel of the handle, it's so called 'lines'.

If you have any questions just holler. I'll be glad to help with any of the head-scratchers or niggles you come across.

Best of luck!

How does the birch bark pieces hold up over time and use? I'm wondering if I should make some to separate the different materials I might use in one handle.

It's tough stuff...and specially in this use, it's gonna really last.

The bark is so rich in its own resins its naturally very stable and resistant to moisture etc.

As you can see, I'm rather partial to using it. Its great for spacers between bolsters.

I'd recommend if stacking it to rotate each piece 90 degrees on e layering it, so that the grain and any of the barks imperfections (aka. Lenticels) are in alternate directions. Don't forget to scrape off the white outer bark first too ;)

Here's a 7.25" James Behring Jr. I received recently. Perfect size for most jobs IMO.

Now that is nice looking little knife! I wouldn't go anywhere without it. Congrats!
