The local places either don't know what I'm talking about, or are selling it for an arm and a leg...I'm talking unheard of ridiculous prices.

I can't find it on ebay either (don't even bother looking unless you want to see the virtual world of satan).

I used the 5lbs bag I bought from elliscustomknifeworks on my forge, and I need more for differential heat treating. I will not order from ellis again...ever (so that's not an option).

Please tell me there are other merchants out there that sell it. If someone maybe has a local company that they can buy it from and send it to me.........I'm open to possibilities.

If you're not buying from Ellis, good luck. I've looked all over and they seem to be the only ones who carry it in other than a 100lb sack. I found a guy in the northwest that could get some but I didn't need 100lbs and he told me the stuff does have a shelf life.

care to share why you wont order from ellis? they're freakin good people.. Its a little annoying that they only ship on fridays, but other than that..

Dear Brent Krous,

No worries, you have managed to make it on to my list of people who I won't do business with again anyway, it's a very small list. Your incessant emails and use of vulgarity towards my wife have gotten you there, especially the last part. Neither she nor I appreciated that. This is the last I am going to say about this matter, and do not expect a response from me in the future regarding this. You have been taken care of and your $3.95 refund for the POL fitting has been sent.

For Satanite, an alternative is Texas Knifemakers Supply, though, I think they charge almost double what we do.

I was not going to air dirty laundry out in a public manner, and to think that you would try to make my side of the situation out to be far worse than it actually is, disgusts me.

BTW, incessant happens when you wait 6 weeks for one completed order, and any form of communication...it tends to be a side effect.

I have no problems posting the email traffic to save my reputation.

If you keep satanite dry it will last for many, many years. Any place that sells refractory supplies will have it or can get it for you. All it takes is a little looking and you can find it cheap. If you do a little math it is FAR less expensive to go ahead and buy a big bag, keep it in a chest type cooler.

darren, has always been great to me ?? i guess everyone has misunderstandings!
but ellis custom knife works is my main source for all my needs in that topic!

6 weeks eh?... I waited 6 months for my order from them.:grumpy:...But that was partly my fault I guess. When things actually got staightened out....finally...., it only took about 7 days. Anyways, I agree with you that it was not good business practice to "air dirty laundry" in a public forum. That whole thing was between you and Ellis and not for anyone else. Hearing that sort of thing in a forum over the internet just seems silly and highly unproffessional of them...disappointing really. Kudos to you for taking that in a relatively good manner. Anyways, I think the stuff they sell at Canadian Tire as Fireplace Refractory Mortar is basically the same stuff anyways. Maybe give that a try....but you know what it's like trying to return things at Canadian Tire.:D
Just kidding.

R.C.: Since I don't have your name anywhere in my customer list, and the only person I have in Red Deer, Alberta is a female name, I'm going to assume this is you. Yes, that was entirely your fault, for ordering the wrong way (USA Flat Rate shipping only to Canada), and then not responding to the email for the shipping cost. Once you had taken care of the shipping, your order was to you very quickly. I don't send things out anymore without payment beforehand, as I've been taken for money far too many times to do that anymore....sadly, that's how we used to do all of our business...send anyone their order, and trust that they would send payment back in. When we were only doing a few orders per month, it wasn't a problem, but as we expanded, it did indeed become a problem.

Re: airing dirty laundry on a forum. I was only responding to the OPs comment, nothing more. He was posting negative comments about us basically over $3.95. It deserved elaboration. In any case, the business is mine, and I reserve the right to defend myself from internet warriors who bad mouth us, just as you would do if someone was making a much-to-do-about-nothing about you.

Finally, since there are so many people who read these forums, let me make something very clear...we do good business. We are part time, and are very upfront about it on our website. We ship on the weekends. We are not amazon.com with a huge warehouse and thousands of employees working for us, it's just the two of us. We have on the order of 300 - 500 individual customers each month that we deal with in a part time business. We are at the mercy of our suppliers sometimes too, if something goes on backorder, then I have to wait for my supplier to get it to us. Sometimes there are delays that are completely out of my control. But all in all, we are a good company to do business with. It used to really bother me when someone posted something negative about our business on the web. It finally dawned on me that even if 3 people posted negative experiences each month, that was still at least a 99% satisfaction rate. I can live with that. Sadly, the happy customers rarely post about being happy. We do our best, and we work hard at what we do. Is there room for improvement? Well, sure there is. I need to implement a better inventory tracking system to help eliminate backorders as much as possible. I also need to figure out a better way to automate emails and also update the FAQ page on our site so we get LESS emails...we get so many that it's a bit overwhelming sometimes. These are things I am working on, and will implement as I have the free time to do so...my day job comes first (it's the one that pays the bills!). But even given these things, and the fact that we are only part time, we have been doing this as a business since 1999, with many happy customers. That speaks for itself.

Ok, I've had my say, and I am really not going to post in this thread again...I just don't have the free time to keep up with all of this. Take care everybody, and have a great week!

:-)

We ordered the way it was instructed on the website...and no, we never got an email for the shipping cost, nor did we get any emails from you. We never had any problems ordering anything off the internet before from the US. Shipping was always very easy and straightforward...but not that time. And it's not always the customers fault. You could have emailed me right away saying there was a problem processing my order, rather than having me wait weeks on end thinking my order was on it's way when it was not. I believe we forgot to add in the exchange rate, but we were not notified of the problem...until 6 months later.

Sorry to get off topic.

Ok, I found a small mom and pop type place locally that price matches refractory supplies. I'm good now.

There's no longer a reason to post here. Thanks for all the info from everyone.

It has come to my attention today that a rebuttal to Darren's choice of words, "use of vulgarity towards my wife" was required.

First of all, it is not my intent to reignite any fires, or dig up anything. I know people have a need to pick and choose words to pay attention too, and others to ignore so their cause/needs are met more efficiently in their own mind. So please, if you read any of this, read all of this.

My only intent here is to clear my name, restore whatever reputation I had before this thread, or to "soften Darren's blow" so to speak.

The words I used in the email that Darren refers too, were so far from how he described, I would never have thought how people might actually perceive what I said. I was at another forum member's house today, finishing up a project (He will remain nameless unless he feels so inclined to post here). The things that he thought I said is what really made me decide to post this (name calling and things of that nature). I had originally planned on just letting it go, but even the forum member suggested that I attempt to clean this up.

Below this paragraph is the actual line from the email I wrote. The email was not addressed to anyone specifically, except that it was sent to the address that is listed under Darren's wife's name, which I knew that they both read.

*edit* I was only going to post the relevant line with the only form of cursing in it, but I thought it over and figured any omission of the email might be thought of as hiding something else. The email is in its entirety below.

I got my burner kit today, and my 5 foot propane hose.

...

The POL fitting, that was missing from my first order...was not in the box.

The instructions that are supposed to come with the venturi kit...were not in the box.

If I didn't need the instructions to put it together, I'd say screw it, so I can just put this bullshit behind me. You can keep the damn POL fitting and my $3.95 if it means I can stop stressing about it...........EVEN THOUGH I ordered it because the venturi kit requires it.

I'm completely overwhelmed by this whole experience. I don't even know what to say....please get that stuff to me ASAP, so I can use what I ordered 6 weeks ago.

Brent

As you can see, this falls quite short of what our society as come to define as vulgarity. I don't want to see definitions from Webster's or dictionary.com. Once again, this was a suggested course of action by another forum member, to me, with the sole purpose of protecting my reputation. I think highly of this person, and consider him a friend. His advice was sound, and made sense.

AGAIN - my ONLY intent here is to protect myself. Not to attack, address, bring up, or blow up any other issues Darren and I had between the two of us as people, buyer, seller or any other form, shape or function of the previous words. It is also NOT my intent to have other buyers speak of negative or positive experiences with Darren, because that is irrelevant at this point.

I am willing to discuss things further with anyone, but if discussion occurs here, by phone, email or anywhere else, I will not speak negatively about anyone involved, and will refer to this situation only, and ONLY the vulgarity portion of this situation. Parts, costs, time frames, people, grammar, etc etc etc are all irrelevant, and will not be discussed by me. This isn't a video game forum, and I don't play the "last word" games.

I hope I beat the appropriate dead horses with this one, so my purpose here is as clear as glass. If there is any confusion, please let me know and I will do my best to clarify anything needing clarification.

Thanks,

Brent K
