I need pictures of what NOT to do

Here's a bit of an odd request. I need some pictures of knives with substantial fit and finish problems. Show me uneven bolsters and big glue gaps, please. I already have some good pics of uneven grinds and plunges, and of unevenly polished blades. I'm working on a judging standards document for the Texas Knifemakers' Guild.

Here is my what not to do entry.

Don't do that. It hurts.

Here's one you might share. I stupidly tried to use a step drill in pilot hole on a Micarta handled knife without clamping down the knife. It "helicoptered" and slashed my left hand just missing tendons and nerves. I was lucky but others might not be. Live and learn. I understand that you wanted photos of poorly finished knives but I think the Texas knife makers might appreciate the safety photo anyway. Larry Lehman

Sorry... I don't make mistakes. I once thought I had, but I turned out to be wrong.

I'd tell you to ask Nick Wheeler for his failure photos... but I have a feeling that even his rejects would pass most judging standards. Freak.

I would do a search for "first Knife" threads. There are often plenty of errors photos there.

To not make mistakes you learned from mistakes :) I'm a great example, a pity that I don't take photo of my errors .In fact, all my knife has some errors in it

i ground through to the epoxy on the finger groove. i have not done that in a while lol :grumpy:

The first knife thread on another forum provided most of what I needed, plus I got a few PM's from folks. Thanks!

Hey Ricky...what gave you the idea to take pictures instead of stopping the bleeding? The pretty red color? I don't see the cut though/\.

I have some pictures but I'll need the permission of the people whose knives I was critiquing before I post them. I don't want to unnecessarily embarrass them.

Just google for pakistan knives.

That will give you plenty to look at.

^^^ This right here is funny. He once let me peek into a drawer of his "rejects". :D
