I have an order for a knife and the customer would like a loose ladder pattern simular to this.

I would like high contrast with nickle. I need 10" x1.5" x about .160. Please let me know if anyone has something like this or can make it. Im sorry if this isnt the correct place to post, I wasnt sure.

By the way, I think pure nickel (nickel 200) in a blade is a bad idea (if that's what you were talking about).

nickle not harden

i have run into the same thing on razors (finding the right steel mix that shows well but will all harden nice )

i would like to see some O2/L6

1084/15N20 has become a "standard" for good reason. Both steels have very similar heat-treat needs, they stick together like glue, hold a nice edge, and etch VERY nicely.

O1/L6 is another good combination. Similar reasons on putting them together.... but not as user friendly and it takes some finesse to get as pretty of an etch. I'd say you get a little improvement in performance, at a little sacrifice in contrast. This is Kevin Cashen's choice in pattern welded steel.

Butch- The O2 will etch nice and dark in the mix, but I don't think it offers the same performance as O1.

for my razors that might work but it might not also as i grind a pile of steel away and might get ride of most the nice patterning

i like low layer bold twist for the most part
deker made some 1095/15n20 adn 1084/15n20 that worked well and looked nice

The top thing is used for launching projectiles at a target ie varmits, cans, or criminals. The bottom with stag handles is made for cutting things or cleaning and processing deer that possibly the first object shot. What do I win?:D

I'd bet you a dollar that Del Ealy has some ladder on hand. And if I recall he uses almost exclusively O1/L6. He's a member here, I think it's dealy... send him a PM.

Hey I was going to say that, I lost again :D What did I loose???

Im sorry, your both wrong.
The correct answer is "Dovetails"........."Dovetails."

You both owe me a set of maple scales.

Check with Delbert Ealy. I bet he'll be able to hook you up nicely with an O1/L6 mix as mentioned above. Give him a call, I bet he'll have you covered.

P.S. I may be able to help you with 1084/15n20 as Butch mentioned, but my shop time is very limited right now so it would probably be a while before I could get it to you. I always feel good pointing people at Del tho, he's good folks and can probably get to you lickety-split.
