I know I do not post here much, there are a lot of guys that got the technical terms down better than I do.
They do a great job I think? My hats of to you all for the job you do here.

So anyway, I would like some feed back on my web site. If you don't mind?

You are all knife nuts here, so who better to ask, right?

Let me know what you think?
Does it have to many photos? Takes to long to load?
Not enough photos?
Wrong lay out?
Not enough info?
Wrong color?
Any thing you would change?
Any thing you would not change- let me know?
Post it here....

I thank you in advance for any help.

I second the shop tour. Maybe show a work in progress, maybe show what you currently are working on. One thing I'd recommend, I had this on my last site, when your home page comes up there's a big empty spot there. Put a picture of yourself in it, maybe a picture of you and the family (not an Indian George ugly picture, course if you look like that stick with the empty space :p). I had a lot of pictures of myself and my family on my last site and customers said they really liked it. Course we have a different customer base.

OK Todd, I took a quick look see and, first I want to say I am a big fan of your work. But your graphic arts skills need some honing. The red text on the for sale page doesn't even show on my screen, way too light against the black background. The text on the Home page does not POP out at you the way it should. The blue you used in the text stands out and the red you used in " Sold" also stands out well. The photo's came out very well, love those filework slipjoints.
Hope this helps
Dave

Instead of having 5 sold pages why not combine them into a couple of gallery pages. Take maybe your favorite 2-3 knives of each pattern you make and just post those.

You could also list them by number in chronological order so customers can see how your work has progressed and improved.

I think the FYI page should be split into 2 pages. One called about the maker, giving your bio ect. And the other about ordering info, insurance, shipping, anything that is not about you.

It's also not a bad idea to have you guarantee and return policy on a separate, easily accessible page instead of at the bottom of the FYI page.

Maybe add a pic of yourself so if someone sees you at a show they can put a face with the name.

Todd,
The black background makes it hard for me to read a lot of the text. I am an old guy and need more contrast to the text. The black is just hard for me. I wish you the best. The shop tour in photos or an link to a youtube video would be nice.

In general, I like it. Agree that a shop tour would be a plus.

However, I use Firefox, not IE and there are some cosmetic issues. Most
of them have to do with large areas of dark background.

The first is at the top of the home page. To me it looks like this:

T.A. Davison Custom Knives
Home Page

Row
of
Buttons

Welcome ...

The second is just a matter of taste: I find the dark background behind your notice that you are not accepting custom orders at this time just too much more dark on that page.

(I also find the notice disappointing since I keep hoping I'll find the money to order from you some day, but that's off topic :))

On thing that I noticed is that I have to side scroll on every page at 1024x768 resolution. Many of your customers will be running screens this size and might be turned off by it. I personally don't read sites that I have to scroll sideways on unless it's some info I really want or need.

I also agree that the pages need some filler information or a picture so that they don't seem blank when you first browse to them.

Great photos of your knives, by the way. When I go to a maker's website I'm always looking for more photos, don't get rid of any.

Todd, I love your knives, but the site needs some tweaking. I don't want to go into a bunch of detail here, but my first impression is 1999. Please email me, I can get you all fixed up in a jiffy.

I changed browsers to IE and get the same as I noted above. One more thing, the shadows in the text box, "T.A.Davison Custom Knives" don't add anything. I may be a little critical , 31 years in 4 color printing will do that, but just trying to help a little.

Your Website looks nice to me, and all the photo's loaded fast here. Great photo work from one of the best. I would leave it like that for now. Merry Christmas Todd and your family.

I'm with Dave. I'd "drop" the drop shadow.

well, the first thing I would do is take those photos of the custom fileworked matching guns and knife, and put them on the front page. Even if you don't do guns any more. Shoot, those are eye catching! The site looks great to me. The shop tour is a good idea.

Overall it looks pretty darn good. The only things I can suggest is on the main page, go through and double check the opening paragraph because it has some spelling and spacing problems. Just minor though. I notice wierd stuff like that. Also, on the knives for sale page, I could not read the dark red lettering. I really like the pictures though, you do such nice work!

Looks fine at home but on the work computer I have to scroll sideways to see everything.

Changing the hard resolution settings to:
width="100%" height="100%" should fix that.

I really liked the site. I think those are some beautiful pocketknives! Maybe one day I can afford one. For now I have to worry about taking care of property taxes & such. I am going to bookmark your site & will try & save for one as long as you don't tell the wife what I paid for it! My opinion. Really nice!

Todd,

I really like the dark background an the pics look awsome. It is always nice to see a shop tour. I am especially fond of the web address.:D
