I need some help, what type of handle on this one?

Wow, it went fast. I was going to suggest to make the handles removable to help prevent rust. If I went to garage sales I wonder if I could find some deals... maybe estate sales? where did you get it from again?

To prevent rust under scales all you have to do is clear coat the tang before assembly. In fact, the epoxy on the scales usually takes care of that aspect.

No problem. My hay knife (a vintage tool used for sawing portions off of haystacks or round bales) has lots of pits on it from neglect, and I clear coated it with lacquer. It's been holding up great.
