I need some input on what Becker will strengthen my collection the most.

BK16 all the way. Might as well throw in a 14 as well while your at it with the zytel scales. I'd recommend some micarta for the 16 as well

Personally if I had your collection and did all the same things as you, hiking and hunting and such, I would probably do away with the fighter and fill that void with something similarly sized but better geared towards my activities. There are a few Beckers that will fill this role effectivly

I will have to agree. It's just so painful to put a prized item on the shelf, especially after the sheet upgrade (I bought a Hedgehog sheath for the Ka-Bar). Hopefully a BK5, 11, 14 or 17 may fill the "gap" the fighter represent now. I will have a hard time deciding which knife to purchase from the BK Line, there are way too many good suggestions in this thread. I bought a Remora to fit with the BK9, so im standing between a BK5, 14 and 17 now.

If a 5 is on the table I'd get that. One of my favorite BKs. I didn't know I needed it until I got one. Maybe a 16 or 17 would fit in the HH sheath you have?

If we're talking size wise, a bk10 might not be a bad route to go to replace the fighter. The 10 is one of my favorites and I think it'll treat you well.

I can understand not wanting to "bench" an old friend (especially when its got extra cash pumped into it in the form of an after market sheath) but think about it from a different perspective. 1st, YOU'LL BE GETTING A NEW KNIFE, and lets face it, thats always cause for a celebration and 2nd, with the new addition to the lineup, you now have an excuse (as if one was needed) to head out into the woods an put it to work!

I agree with the others, you need another Becker!

Which one is up for debate. The Ka-Bar with the Hedge Hog is a keeper for sure.

After looking at your line up, I say you need a slicer.

I reccommend the 15,

However the 17 is my next Becker, with the 16 after that, so i'm not much help.

Look, pretty much any Becker you get will be worth adding to your collection (they are Beckers after all), but if you want to "add" to your collection, you need a slicer like a 5 or 15. That's the only real hole I see in your current line-up. :)

I agree with G M L,

I'd shove the CRKT in my pocket and lose one of those broken (folders) knives.

Obviously this is more about want than need. Your current selection is impressive and can handle most any woods chore. The Sami would make do with the second and fourth ones and be very happy.

I just recently added two Kellams to my kit, a Slasher (Leuku) and a Wolverine (Puukko). I am fascinated by what tha Sami people can do with that combination. It was want more than need.

How about more info from you,
Do you camp in cold weather?
Do you process both large and small game?
Do you tent camp or build lean-tos and shelters?
If you fish do you have a fillet knife?
Do you cook on wood or a stove?

I'm guessing most of your woods are made up of conifers and birch, but it's just a guess.

Choosing knifes is always a good time.

Not to pee in your knife cheerios, but what does your axe selection look like?

I do camp in cold weather. The winter where I live range from zero degrees Celsius to 30 below, with a lot of snow or rain, as I live by the fjords in Norway.

I process small game, and I've used a lot of different tools for that job. Mostly the Brusletto hunter. And I have a cheap fillet knife I use for my fish, that I don't regard as a part of the knife collection, but maybe I should display it as well. I camp in a tent, because the trees up here can be very far between. 90% of the trees are birch, but in some areas where I hunt there are almost no trees at all. I live a few miles above the 70th parallel north, and we have to travel south to find a substantial forest. And that is the reason I do most of my cooking on my primus multifuel.

It takes a long time to gather enough wood to make a good fire for the night, and that's why I need good and light tools for wood processing. The way I do it, is I set up camp, then I empty all content of my backpack in the tent, and go roaming for wood, filling up the empty backpack with as much as I can find. It often take hours to get enough.

The sami people are the true outdoorsmen of this cold and remote region, and I share your fascination for their craftsmanship.
