I need to buy steel for blacksmithing but i have no idea where to start when it comes to buying steel, I need some recommendations or websites in where I can find quality steel. Preferably S30 V steel.

If I was just starting out, a steel that expensive would be my last choice. That being said, the stickies at the top of the page have supplier links.

Steel for black smithing? Or blade smithing? If you are just looking for steel to bang on, you can always buy "welding steel" at lowes or Home Depot or whatever box store you have nearby.

Blacksmiths generally work with low to medium carbon steel ( usually just called "mild steel").

Bladesmiths work with medium to high carbon steel.

S30V is a high alloy stainless steel, which is not generally forged. It is also expensive.

For forged knife steels try 1084, 5160, 1070, 52100, 1095, W2, O-1.

All the knife suppliers sell knife steel. Many of us buy from Aldo Bruno, who's business is called the New Jersey Steel Baron.

For blacksmith projects, Lowes, Home depot, and Fastenal all sell mild steel. Blacksmith suppliers, like Smith and Keene and Centaur Forge, also sell some specific types and shapes of blacksmithing steel.

I would also recommend Amazon for low carbon steel if you have prime. I can get a very good price on low carbon and even W1 with Free 2 day shipping. Shipping usually get expensive fast when buying steel

For regular mild steel, don't forget your local welding supply, or machine shop. They may have drops for cheap or free.
