My dear family, it seems that I need to have surgery, as I have a tear in my extensor tendon in my left elbow. I have had really bad tendonitis in it since last March. I have had it injected 3 times!! I had an MRI last Sunday, with a follow-up appointment on Wednesday. Yup, I sure do have tear. I will be having my surgery done on Dec. 19th. In the mean time, my doctor has ordered an EMG, to see if I have Carpal Tunnel, or if the hand problems I am having is related to the swelling of the elbow joint, So, If I DO have Carpal Tunnel, he will fix that at the same time he fixing my elbow. (I had Carpal Tunnel surgery 18 years ago in my right hand.) Anyway.......Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear this, Suz.
Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

Just think how lucky you are. If I had to have surgery, that's not a bad one to have. There are people who are having open heart and much worse. Good luck with it, I'm sure you will be doing fine when the doctors fix you up. I have had quite a few surgeries myself, and the doctor told me just what I mentioned here. We are the lucky ones in the scheme of things.

Good luck with the surgery. That kind of thing never seems to heal without surgery for some reason.

Be carefull if you get one of those nerve blocks they use. I had one in my neck for my shoulder surgery in Sept. and almost ended up on a respirator. It paralysed my diaphram on the right side and I could barely breath. I couldn't get enough steam up to cough or clear my throat for several hours.

This happened after I was already home and thinking I would just take medicine and rest.

If it happens to you have somebody ready to take you in. I didn't. I took a pill, wen't to sleep and woke up with the paralysis gone. I'd have rather died than been sitting in a hospital on a respirator.

It's a bad feeling. Joe

Thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes. I am having general anesthesia.
I am aware that it could always be worse!! Believe me, I live everyday with an attitude of gratitude.

As always, Suz, best of luck. Feel free to PM if you wish.

Are you sure that the wrist problems aren't caused by your sudden switch over to slipjoints? To someone accustomed to fast one-handed openings, these two-handed opening jobs can cause serious strain on the wrist. Especially if you are going to customs with tight lock-up and high "snap" quotient. The change over should be done gradually, and with caution.

:D

Shaldag is right! (Of course!) Tight, complex knife handling demands the finest muscle control ... if it's gotten too much for you to deal with, we can help. Send the knives out for safekeeping, we'll see to it they stay properly lubricated and worked so they don't corrode.

Heal up quickly and thoroughly! We can have your knives back sometime in 2009 -- just say when! :D

S,

Our thoughts and prayers will be with you, especially on December 19. I hope, for you, a speedy and easy recovery.
Keep us posted,

Rick and Coleen

I am having general anesthesia.

I did too. These days they send people home instead of putting them in overnight due to Insurance cost cutting reasons. The saddle block is to help with the extreme pain at home that would be treated with an IV drip in the hospital.

This was the first time they used it on me, on my 3rd surgery. It's going to be the last too. If I had been in the hospital they would have not given me a choice and respirated me. As you know from being in the medical field that can go wrong sometimes. Joe
