I need to get my gear sharper

Hi,

Just starting to get somewhat serious about sharpening after I bought I couple of mora's and I can't get them as sharp as they came.

Right now my main stone had been a 800/4000 waterstone, and for things in the field I have a DMT diafold red/blue (25/45 micron). From looking at the grand unified grit stickey, it looks like, for an edge that needs basic maintaining I could go from 25 micron diamond to my 4000 waterstone (3 micron?) and that thing should be pretty dang sharp, which it is, just not has sharp as it came. Am I missing something? Is it as simple as going to a finer stone? Also, is it unreasonable or unwise to have my big boy baton knives like my BK2 be as sharp as the Moras?

Oh, I try to freehand everything. Also, when I sharpen the mora I just keep that original scandi grind angle.

Thanks for your time.

Raise a nice burr on both sides, then try to get rid of the burr, then switch to higher grit. More time, less pressure.

I usually don't keep my wood processing badass knives as sharp as my fine slicers, but they can shave for sure.

YMMV.
