I need your help/opinions Part II

...Almost looks like a "throwback" to the ol' 2 scale rivet days...

That's what I thought, too...but if you look real close, you can see the 3rd rivet/hole... ;)

Maybe it's just the backspring, or a piece of the rivet covering the hole...

On the Bocote, I just checked TexasKnife, Jantz, and eBay...No scales for sale right now with that real light yellowish color...

Looks like you got a real good deal scale there, Flatlander...

When I was taking out the rivets the back one on the other side fell out and clanked around above the backspring. I finially got it to shake out. The side you see the backspring must be pushing against that rivet. So I just ground it off with the Cootes. But this is the knife that I showed a while back that has a deeper belly than usual and someone said it looked like an older knife. I thought thats what Darrell was talking about.

Trax...you like that boot commercial I sent you?

I checked the guys auctions; you're right - no Bocote...but there's a lot of other auctions right now...one seller had a light set, but when I read the auction description, it said you wouldn't receive the blanks in the pic but that you'd be happy with what they sent you...hahahahaha!!! Screw him... :p

Edit: Just got the commercial this morning...Funny stuff!!! :D

PR...that was not help at all:rolleyes:. I'm leaning with Haebbie at the moment. Although the Ironwood would look really good too. I'm thinking I should save to Ebony for a nickel/silver knife.

Well, Like I said. One each!!! :D I'll buy the desert ironwood one from ya.
:D:D

Jest Do IT!

I went Duck Hunting yesterday and hence my total no show on this thread. Took one mallard drake and knocked down another that dived immediately and disappeared under a large mat of weeds and debris on the river. I have to say again steel shoot sucks and the shooter ain’t too good either. But it was an interesting type of hunt that was a drift that ended by setting spread of decoys. It took place on a leg of the Saco River near the New Hampshire border. This particular section swings north and then meanders south. The people that settle this area in the early 1800 cut a canal to stop the flooding in surrounding northern leg. So, this upper leg is a very light flow smallish river of about 30 yards wide surrounding excellent wet lands with numerous lakes draining into the river and cornfields with many shallow field ponds that hold water this time of year. All in all, excellent waterfowl habitat.

The drift was in a 2 man pontoon meant for fly fishing, so it has a small platform and lean bar in the front position. Shooting is allowed at 6:00am which is about first light but still very dark. A key to this type of hunt is the fog that is typical at this time on the river. So you drift down and basically jump shoot the ducks who allow you to get in close enough due to the fog. However, once the fog has lifted this method is over. We jumped up 15 ducks and shot on 2 pairs. Later during the decoy set, hunting was poor as the ducks weren’t flying (not that many around this time of year). It was beautiful though and the cold…got a very light snow. Still I enjoyed myself.

I’m about to go up to the shop and look one more time at the scale laid out next to the knife. I’ll post my decision on the next cup of coffee run.

Thanks all for you input and interest. I’ll do a before and after this afternoon hopefully. g

Thanks for the duck hunting report. At least you have a decent place to go and not bothered by other folks. Last year I went on a guided goose hunt and another guided duck hunt. I used Hevi-Steel (made in Oregon) and Federal's Black Cloud and they just hammered the mallards and Canada's. I swear by Hevi-Steel and that is all I'll shoot from now on. In almost 45 years of duck hunting I finally got my first pintail last year.

I agree with Mr. CJ. I like the ironwood and that would be next after the amboyna.

I decided on the Bocote. First off I decided that it would play off the brass well. And I have never seen it on a 110 before. Before and Afters coming up shortly. g

I still have to seal it and polish her up but this is about the final look.

JB,

I've been messin with my Kaala this afternoon. Here is a bad picture but You see where I'm headed at least. It gave my a headache. I think I'm going to take a break from this knife tinkering for a bit. I got some other rat killin's need taking care of.
