Here's my question. As I have said before I carry an old Remington 3 blade whittler and on your advice I ordered an LCC and love it. I carry it most every day but really want to replace the Remington with a deep pocket everyday carry-user. (would have to remove the clip on small sebenza.) I am wondering if the small Sebenza is too large to carry everyday in pocket especially wearing dress slacks? I know it would be fine for jeans but am concerned with the dress pants.

Uses for this knife would be from cleaning fingernails to opening letters, small cutting chores, ect. I don't want it to be too large but again not too small either. When someone askes "do you have a knife" for their cutting chores I don't want them to be intimidated. I want this to be my last purchase for everyday carry.

I am a rather large person with large hands and am affraid the Umfaan might be too small. I can't always have the LCC with me so I need good all around and best quality I can get. And when I carry both knives I don't want it to be overkill. I like Ti handles and love extremely good quality.

I know I posed a similar question a while back but after recieving the LCC and seeing what real quality is all about these days I really want a very high quality one hand opening folder for carrying at all times.

I am just concerned the small Sebenza might be too large. Please help me with this decision!! I trust you guys even though you are inadvertantly costing me alot of $$$$$!!

Thanks for the help in advance, Dave

BTW I haven't yet but when I get the chance I will do all possible searches and read. I have tried to used a tape measure and imagine what it would be like but it's nearly impossible. Please don't recommend anything of a lesser quality. Thanks again.

Id go with the Small Sebenza if you dont want to go too big, the small is the best all around size. The umfaan is a VERY SMALL knife.

But then again, if you have already been carrying the LCC the large Sebenza should be perfect for you. Thats what I carry everyday. The large Sebenza carries much easier than the LCC...I have the two of them side by side right now, they are almost the same weight and length. The Sebenza is slightly thinner.

I can't sing the praises of the BM 705 McHenry and Williams design with the incomparable axis lock designed by Bill McHenry. The axis lock makes it an incredibly smoothly opening knife. The gentlest flick of the thumb and the blade rockets out like a MT auto. The blade length is around 3" so I've been able to carry it on planes and yet it is a very durable knife and costs in the neighborhood of $100.00.
Go out now and buy one. I've got four.

I don't want to replace the LCC, I want to replace the Remington pocket knife. I still want to carry the LCC when possible as a larger user. Is the small Sebenza much thinner than the large one?

I don't want to knock the BM but I don't think the quality is same as CR models and as I has mentioned I want the highest quality I can get for the Money. Thanks, Dave

Apogee. Ask Darrel to make it without a clip.

The Baby Benza is too heavy for pocket carry in my opinion. For deep pocket, nothing beats a micarta or zytel handled knife. The Spyderco Calypso Jr. pops to mind. My particular favorite are the custom David Boye Prophet Companion lockbacks. Thin, light, cut like crazy.

Forget the rest, and buy yourself a Zytel Spyderco Native. You WON'T be sorry that you took my wise advise.

Since you already have seen the quality of a Microtech, how about a UDT or mini socom? Both can be had for around $100 and have the same quality as the LCC.

Please don't take any offense, but I don't like Spyderco. I don't think they compare in quality to Chris Reeve and some others. Dave

I personally don’t find the small Sebenza too heavy for pocket carry, even in slacks, but I am somewhat corpulent (as Steve can attest to). It is much slimmer than the full sized knife but is still a workhorse. The Umfaan is tiny.

The William Henry Lancet is a very nice knife in that size range, and can be had with a variety of materials. The older versions that were bolsterless with micarta or Cocobolo are wonderfully slim and light pocketknives.

I have to agree that a small Apogee makes a great pocket folder, I am very glad I don’t have a clip on mine.

Anymore opinions would be appreciated. I found where I can get a NIB shipped to me for $255.00 and if this is right choice I thought I should jump on it ASAP! Thanks, Dave

I think that you will be very well satisfied with the small Sebenza. I do not, however, loan my Sebenzas to anyone. If they need something cut, I will gladly do it for them.

You may want to purchase the leather pouch which is available for the large Sebenza and trim it to fit. It will keep pocket lint and gunk out of the hinge and will protect the vulernable Ti slabs from change and key tattoos.

The small Sebenza is an excellent knife and you won't be disappointed with it. It's small enough not to scare people and big enough to cut anything you'll find at the office. But if you want a knife to lend out to people, do you want that to be a $255 knife. Usually when people buy a knife to lend out, it ends up being a fairly inexpensive one, as non-knife people are more dangerous to our knives than our knives are to them. If I carried a small Sebenza, I don't think it would leave my sight. Just more for ya to think about.

I would never lend a knife. Besides being unsure how much damage the borrower could do to my knife, I would worry about the damage the knife could do to the borrower. I am continually amazed by the general ignorance of what a knife is and how it works.

And I don't mean ignorance in an insulting way: I have had people see me with a folding knife and ask what it was. One man recently was amazed that a knife could be made with a blade that folded up inside it (my Sebenza).

As far as damage goes, I had a woman break a Cross ballpoint pen on me. I'd never have guessed she was strong enough!? I don't lend my pens now, either.

I didn't actually mean "loan out". What I was refering to was when someone needs to open a box or cut a thread, ect. they ask "do you have a knife? I never let any knife leave my sight. Knock on wood but I guess thats why I still have that eight year old Remington. I'm the type that panics when I loose something and can't do anything until I find what I'm looking for. When I was a kid I lost a buck "stockman" while sledding in snow and went back out after dark and looked for who knows how long but guess what, I found it! Dave

Dave, as StJames pointed out the William Henry Lineup is a great item for dress slacks. But for EVERYDAY carry I really can't emphasis enough the Carbon Fiber Lancet by William Henry, I carry this knife in my shirt pocket everyday without fail, and it's blade is big enough and the handle long enough to do normal everyday chores very well!

For me, the small sebenza is probably the best daily carry around. Strong, lightweight, and a perfect size for daily cutting chores. I also carry a budget knife (CRKT Urban Shark at the moment) as a 'loaner' and for messy jobs like cutting eletrical tape.

Gary, what's the handle material on the lancet thats 3rd from the bottom? Doesn't look like the std jigged bone or fishtail oak. Some sort of rosewood or redwood?

The small sebenza is a great pocket knife. Some time ago I snapped the clip off of mine and I have never bothered to replace it.Its open design makes for easy cleaning, pocket lint and such are handled in seconds with dish soap and hot running water.Once a month or less I take it apart and lube it,a 5 minute job.I am a smoker so along with my keys a bic lighter is a constant pocket companion.A small sebenza is just as wide, not as thick and 1/2 inch longer than a bic lighter. It weighs less than my keys.

How about the Microtech Kestrel? I also love my LCC, but the fit and finish for the price is hard to beat in the Microtech line. The Kestrel is very lightweight and the hawkbill shape is great for most tasks.

I personally can't justify the cost of a small sebenza. I find the MT's to be of near quality and much prettier, though that is subjective. I can't argue with the above recommendations for the William Henry's either!
