Hey all, thank you so much for your prayers and support. I had to come home today for a job interview tomorrow and then I am heading back to the hospital.
Mackenzie is doing O.K. The surgery went well and without copmplications. It took about 3.5 hours and they took out two of the old ping pong balls and put seven new ones in. So now she has nine in her right side chest cavity.
She came off the ventilator just fine and then fought like the little trooper she is for four days trying to cough up all the congestion and gunk that accumulates while under anestesia (sp). They used the same insition as in april of 2000, but the ribs were fused together and had to be "chisled" apart. So you can imagine how sore she was.
All the past week has been a blurr, but about 60 hours ago she had to be put back on the ventilator. She was just plain worn out and couldn't fight anymore. She has also been diagnosed with pneumonia and RSV (a respiratory virous). Her latest xrays looked good, and she is making progress, but it will be a slow process to get her back off the machine. At least now she is resting peacefully, and getting a well deserved break.
The ventilator is only assisting her and her vitals and blood gases are looking good, so now it is just a waiting game until they can suction all the "gunk" out of her lung. I am hoping for the end of the week to see her sitting up in bed and eating some pizza.
Again, thanks for your thoughts and prayers, and keep them coming. We truely appreciate your concern. I will give another update as soon as I can, but for now, I am going to try and get some sleep.
Thanks again and just so you can put a face to her name, here is one of her latest pictures:
