I never thought before that expiration of the Tri-ad lock patent might actually be a GOOD thing for enthusiasts ?

I think Cold Steel should make some better handle options in addition to their safe and secure locks. I would not mind an AD10 with the same type of scales as the new Boker Dessert warrior folding knife with a robin's egg colored coated blade. A Spartan with a pink or dessert colored handle with a robin's egg or light blue colored blade coating would also be great. This custom Buck 722 with S35VN is a great example. A few tweaks and a stop pin in the right place can make this a triad lock. Autos are a problem in a lot of places. The Boker with a triad lock would not be bad.

A little off topic but a K-bar USMC knife or the Cold Steel leatherneck bowie (it's called a fuller not a blood groove on the leatherneck) with glossy green red white an pink multicolored (candy stripe) handle spacers and a neon or bright toxic green blade coating would be fabulous. A black fuller would contrast nicely with pink, light blue, Robin's egg (classic soda fountain classic,) or even green. Anyone with photo shop ?

Can someone photo shop a Spartan with the same colors as the knives below.

Heck yeah !

A Black Talon 2 in a baby toy color scheme might appear less weaponized ...or at least very confusing ? 🤪

Are you a Marine? My son is a Marine he's in Okinawa. He loves it. My oldest son is in the 82nd Airborne Division based out of North Carolina. They always get my best knives.
No, Sir. I have lots of respect for them.

A serrated black talon II with different sprinkle colors on the scallops of the serrations. That might be difficult to mass produce though considering the serration design.

NYC hates those kind of things. In NYC it is actually mandated by law that your gun has to be a black/blued or dull metal like ugly color. The only pretty color allowed would likely be some chromed or nickel finish that the ignorant would associate with an evil criminal weapon. They claim pretty colors like pink or light blue etc... would make it look too much like a toy.

No cheerful looking colors allowed on your gun. It must look dreary or evil by anti-gun standards. Violators will be charged. Officially mandated by NYC law.

On the flip side if your kid's toy gun looks too much like a real gun (not a bright or clear toy like color and a lack of an orange or red ect.. colored cap fixed on the muzzle) he/she can be charged with a misdemeanor offense.

A multicolored Triad Lock, Espada XL would likely be viewed as the physical incarnation of the devil by NYC political leaders based on looks alone.

Lock backs were the standard and used by everyone for a long time and still to this day. Lock backs are great locks when made right. Although Cold Steel may want to control the triad lock patent forever it's just not going to happen. Patents expire and technology moves forward. I would like to see the triad lock be the new standard. Whether they like it or not Andrew Demko and Cold Steel have done the public a very good service. We will likely thank them more (even if some will not admit it) for safer folders when this design becomes widely used. I must admit I never saw it coming.
