Seriously.

While their website strives (a little too) hard to be high-techy looking, the knives are every bit worthy of such effort! THEY ARE PHENOMENALLY COOL-LOOKING!

I don't really go for tanto blades, but I was just looking at the Shrapnel, and that is one sweet-looking knife.

Also, they have this thing called the Silver Talon, which unfortunately seems (based on their advertising copy) to be a steak knife! The thing looks to me like the perfect NECK KNIFE, and yet they are selling it as a steak knife! :( So, no neck sheath. (I also have no idea how much the set costs, but I'll bet it's painful.)

That's just what I like from the fixed blades. I'm going back to look now at the folders and see if there are any designs I would care to have.

Oh, anybody have any knowledge or info about this steel they use, "Bohler N690"? They make it sound real good, but I've never heard of it used in any other popular knives...

Well, Kevin Wilkins likes it. (Calls it "an excellent steel with high rust resistance")

http://www.wilkins-knives.com/materials_e.html

on the other hand (?) Benchmade is using it in some - or all - of their Red Series knives.

It's an Austrian cobalt steel that seems highly regarded in general, extremely high chromium content, also very hardenable.

Does N690 have that radioactive Cobalt in it like VG-10?

Yes, N690 contains 1.5% cobalt. However Cobalt itself is NOT radioactive when dispersed in any metallic alloy. It has some radioactive isotopes, but you souldn't be worried. If you EDC a VG10 or N690 blade, you won't put Tschernobil or Hiroshima in your pocket. :p By the way every metal has some radioactive isothopic form, so if you are scared of a cobalt alloy, you shold keep yourself far from every object made from metal.

Sorry, think the extreme ratios look like the ultimate mall ninja toy.Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions " like a*&holes we all have one and they all stink"

Going by my ER Nemesis folder, I would say they are as strong as any folder on the market. Of course, some of that is sheer mass, including a VERY thick blade. With the crosslock engaged, it might as well be a fixed blade.

Despite the thick edge, it does sharpen up nicely.

I have a Col Moshen that is absolutly awsome sharp and has a point like a fine needle. What surprised me was how ergonomic the handle is with its kind of funny shape, however, if fits my hand like a glove. Cobalt steels are very hardenable. I like mine!

If you get a steel with an alloy of Co60 then you better put it down and run since that IS the readioactive cobalt. It starts as cobalt 59 in valve seats and when bombarded by neutrons it become cobalt 60 with a 7.5 yr. half life emitting gamma, and beta radiations. Don't worry about the alpha radiations since they are stopped by a sheet of paper unless you ingest it, then your body thinks alpha radiation is calcium and goes into your bone merrow.

Extrema Ratio knives are very well made!

I agree. It may be a fine knife, but I certainly don't like the way it looks...

I own a benchmade rant tactical (red class from our buddies in tiawan) made from N690. I got for it $35, and that thing is everything you could ever want in a camp knife! It's sweet! the N690 sharpens up almost as much as D2, but it takes a while to get there, yet it stays once you got it.

I can't find this knife on their website can you post a link to a pic?

Well, that Italian design thing.

The cars, the suits, the ties, the furniture, the art...etc...

Now come the knives!

No, I can't. It seems to be one of those websites-within-a-website things -- a separate window within the browser. Go to the home page of the site, click on "catalogue," and then "fixed blade" It's second from the bottom.

Apparently they're steak knives, possibly not even available for order (I'm not sure). So as such, they don't have sheaths. I'm sure that you could send one out to someone like Eric at On-Scene Tactical and he could mold you a kydex neck sheath... Ooooh, that's an appealing prospect... :D

Does anyone know what E.R. means when the knife data page says "Double Sharpening: No"? I don't know if that means it's not a "dagger" blade, or if it's chisel ground, or what...

I have an ER knife and it's very nice... Don't even remember the model as I snagged it while it was on "special" and then put it in the safe...LOL. I do want one of those new kukri looking knives they have, though...

Peace-

No doubt, girl scout!

I don't really go for tanto blades, -
I do, and ER's in particular. Bangin designs. I also got the Benchmade Rant in N690 to see if the steel was any good before dropping $300 on an ER. It is good, really good. Can't wait to give one a whirl. Also, anyone tried the similar-looking Dark Ops? Seems like these designs are love them or hate them, and I love them! Peace -yogi

Add my name to the list of people who think these are about the goofiest looking knives around. But, everybody likes something different. That's what is so fun about the knife world.

I've never held an ER, but the handles look about as comfortable as a couple of clothes pins on the family jewels.

If the Nemesis didn't have the upper guard, it might be something to put on the list. Other than that, the knives are butt-hideous to me.

I also want to deanimate whoever is in charge of their marketing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; comfort, however, is in the hand. Since you've never held one, your opinion seems superfluous.

Deanimate? Why? Are you thinking of Dark Ops, rather than Extrema Ratio? They are two very different companies.

I have no doubt that they are nice knives, but I am not a fan of the high tech thing. I don't I like the futuristic look, and the giant "58 HRC" across the blade is god awuful.

With a 1/4" thick blade, I can't see how you could slice anything with it. I sure wouldn't want one of these if I had to cut up a bunch of cardboard. Although, I suppose thats not what they are designed for anyway.

Care to enlighten me with your opinion?

The ER website is probably one of the most annoying sites I've trudged through. Way too much bells & whistles. For my tastes, all that animation needs to be de-animated as well.

Edit: scrolled up & saw that you own a Nemesis. Ears are now open to more objective feedback, good or bad.
