I offer that Extrema Ratio makes just about the coolest-looking knives around.

In case you still haven't noticed, the word "deanimate" stems from DOK, not from ER.

Edit: scrolled up & saw that you own a Nemesis. Ears are now open to more objective feedback, good or bad.

Are you saying that nobody who actually owns an ER and has experience with it can provide objective feedback on it? Wow...I guess when you want opinions on Fords, you ask for them at chevyforums.com.

But here you go:

I for one do not own an ER yet, but I've handled a few (both fixed blades and folders) and I have to say that I really like their ergos. They're certainly different and unusual, but that doesn't make them uncomfortable at all. I don't like their tanto blades and their folders are a bit boxy for my tastes (if I want a heavy duty knife, I buy a fixed blade).

I'll probably pick up a Shrapnel sooner or later. Great size and a very practical blade shape - and that geocamo stuff sure looks neat.

^That's exactly the opposite of what I was saying.

Since I saw that Esav owned an ER Nemesis, I became more receptive to what he had to say about it.

Now take me to a VW dealer :p.

Oh, it kind of sounded like you discard Esav's opinion because he owns one looking for more "objective" opinions instead (to rule out "owner's pride").

Going by my ER Nemesis folder, I would say they are as strong as any folder on the market. Of course, some of that is sheer mass, including a VERY thick blade. With the crosslock engaged, it might as well be a fixed blade.

Despite the thick edge, it does sharpen up nicely.

I had a Fulcrum II. Very similar knife.
I liked the thickness, but the blade was so narrow (from edge to spine) that it was like a wedge. The same design with a broader blade would be a better design, IMHO. Still, I wish I'd kept mine.

I like big knives AND small knives, but I find I can handle knives larger than many people find comfortable. It is, after all, a matter of individual hand size as much as aesthetics.

For me, the peculiar squared-off ER handle is comfortable and a very secure grip. Just as many knives have an index finger choil, the rectangular inset behind the guard works as an index+middle finger choil.

I understand why you might not like an upper guard but I find the handle is so long, it doesn't matter to me.

Incidentally, while the Nemesis (and the other ER folders) are not optimized for slicing, they aren't totally inept at it, either, because the steel takes a nice edge. I wouldn't use it as a kitchen knife, but in the woods, it slashes through some thick vines and thorns easily and cleanly.
