I Opened Another Italian 4Max

I wonder who's making these for cold steel. I've got some maserin police knives and they are very high quality and fit and finish. so not sure its them. maybe fox or extrema ratio, or lionsteel......but lion steel is usually very high quality. who else am I missing that is an Italian maker?

it is impossible that they were produced by:

LionSteel
fox
MASERIN!

these are other quality industrial cutlery in maniago italy:

tecnocut (viper)
antonini
olivetto
mac

cold-steel makes exceptional knives in the last few years I think it is having problems as it regulates the quality control both for the lockable and for the fixed blades.

You can buy it for $200 today with a coupon as part of a labor day sale on an auction site. Maybe not a bad deal at that price.

The Italian version has a nice darker gray G10. I like that.

Is there a clear favorite between the Italian version and USA version?

I think you'd need someone(s) with both if you want a comparison that is not about country of origin or scale color :)
I like my USA gen 2 a lot, despite the initial snafu with lockbar fit. It was "handled" and is now first rate. This thread might lead some to conclude there is a pervasive problem, but I don't know how far-reaching the problem with the Italian made version is, nor do I see anything in this thread that answers that question. Sorry can't be more helpful.

Thanks for the input.

Only difference I can see (aside from country of origin) is the G10 color and $45. Think I'll just pull the trigger and see the 4-Max up close for myself. I've been going back and forth for days.

I look forward to your opinion when it arrives.

Something else caught my eye. Another beefy overbuilt knife. Custom/near custom level. Rather pricey (for me) but hard to find and absolutely gorgeous. So I snagged it.

Might try the 4-Max down the road.

My 4max is made in italy first run and it is flawless compared to the usa 4max I had is was horrible so many hit spots the g10 wasn't smouth at all many rough edges junk compared to my Italian made 4max not even close so I guess it's the run of luck.

Your right, Steve. The Italian-version was a premier-example of the knifemaker's art. Absolutely, flawless. If the new-version drops below $275 USD, I might have to go-for-it. Currently, I'm looking-at the newest Benchmade Adamas automatic. That's about to be released.
